Melissas POV
I was at Maddie's house to get ready for the party tonight. We were meeting all the other cheer girls there.
"You know Ben Plunkett?" I asked her to do the finishing touches on my makeup.
"No," she said airily.
"Ben. Plunkett" I repeated.
"You repeating his name won't help," she said pointing her eyeliner at me.
I held up my hands in fake surrender "He is in your... literature class" I said.
"Nope nothing" she replied. "Is there a picture?"
"Maybe from elementary or middle school...?" I said opening my phone. After a little minute of looking, I found one, I showed it to Maddie who thought for a second before saying.
"No Nuts Plunkett!" I hit her on the shoulder.
"I'm kidding. Yeah, I do know him why?"
"He's my bio project partner"
"Oh easy project!"
"Maddie!" I scolded.
"Kidding jeez" She rolled her eyes "Do you still like him?"
"I don't know," I said chewing on my thumbnail "He's still cute, and when we were working on the project he was all awkward it was adorable and-"
"Girl" Maddie cut me off "You love him"
"I do not"
"Fine, you like him"
"shit"
She hummed before turning back to the mirror.

We were at the party and all the cheerleaders were sitting on a couch in the basement, I was still thinking about earlier I kinda zoned out of the conversations and was tracing the top of my cup.
In my head, there were 2 current options.
1. Be. normal and ask Ben out
2. get drunk2 seemed easier and more accomplishable tonight because Ben doesn't do parties. So I stood up to get a drink, I was debating whether to get the punch or straight liquor when I walked into somebody.
"Oh no I'm so sorry," the other person said, I know that voice, Ben?
"Ben?" I asked looking up.
"Oh, Melissa McCormack" my full name, as always.
"You can just call me Melissa you know? or Millie" I told him
"Yeah totally, I'm so sorry by the way"
"No problem Ben, want a drink?" I asked.
"S-sure"
I took his hand and walked over to the drinks.
"What's in this?" he asked pointing to the punch.
"Probably Vodka" I replied shrugging my shoulders and taking a large amount into my cup.
"Might want to slow down there" Ben said as I downed the cup and refilled it.
"All good," I told him before walking off with him following.
I was going to go back to the other girls when I stopped "Wait, why are you here?" I asked Ben.
"Mandy wanted us to have a normal high school experience" He replied.
"It's not all it's cracked up to be" I replied looking into my nearly empty cup.
Mandy came up to us then and asked to talk to Ben I was kinda sad he had to go. I went back to the girls and continued to get drunk out of my mind.
