Chapter 1
Harry had left a little while ago. Ginny hadn't gotten caught up in Luna's attempt to distract everyone, and she had seen him leave. But she figured he deservered some peace, and she could talk to him later. Hermione and Ron had left soon after he had, no doubt following him to the headmaster's office. Of course they would want to go there, speak with Dumbledore, he would know what to do.
"Ginny!" Her mothers voice snapped her out of her trance. She seemed to be the only strong one in the family. Everyone else had broken down around Fred's lifeless body. Couldn't they see that this is not what he would have wanted? Fred lived to make everyone else happy. All this moping around definately didn't look happy to her.
"Mum, stop this." He mother looked shocked. She gestured at her family. "This, wouldn't be what he would have wanted. We should be celebrating. The war is over."
"I don't want to forget." Molly looked as if she was about to break into an entirely new set of tears, but before Ginny could step in to tell her to calm down, George said,
"Gin's right, mum. He wouldn't want this." He came over and put his arm around his mother. "Come on mum, let's say goodbye." Ginny decided she had had enough of all this sadness, she needed to have a walk. As soon as she'd passed through the great doors, or what was left of them, she made her way down to the black lake, away from the smouldering remains of the castle. Away from the dead bodies. She sat down, with her back against the tree, trying to imagine what her conversation with Harry would be like. How he would confess his love for her, and she would forgive him, and they would kiss, and make up.
"Cho, I -" It was Harry. With Cho. They were nearby. Ginny leapt up and made her way toward the origin of the noise, but her heart shattered into a million pieces when she saw him. Them. The two of them intertwined in each others arms, lips pressed tightly together. Her hands running through his thick, dark hair, his, around her small waist. Harry, making out with Cho. She stormed back towards the castle.
"Ginny?!" Harry called after her. The sound of his voice made her want to run back to him, and hug him, and forgive him. But she couldn't. No. She had to stay away from Harry, let him be with Cho, she wouldn't care. "Ginny, wait, it's not what you think!" Of course it wasn't. It never was. He caught up with her, and grabbed her elbow. His touch sent electricity surging through her body.
"What do you want, Potter?" She spat at him, her anger evident. He loosened his grip and hurt was evident of his face. She made use of this opportunity and wrenched her arm away from him. She left him there, in the middle of the grounds, staring after her. Let him stare, she thought, let him hurt. I don't care, and he shouldn't either. She made her way up to Griffindor common room, into the girl'sdorm, and collapsed on her bed. Then, all of the pain and anger she had kept pent up inside, let itself out. Fred's death, seeing Harry with Cho, all of it. She couldn't help herself, it all just spilled out. She sobbed into her pillo for a long time, but eventually, she had no more water to cry with, and she drifted off into a restless sleep.
"Ginny? Ginny, wake up." Ginny's eyes gradually began to open, and she found herself looking at Hermione. "Good, you're awake. We've all been looking for you. Harry said you -" At the mention of his name, she burst into a freah wave of tears. "Ginny?" Hermione got up and wrapped her arm around Ginny's shoulder. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"He- he-" She tried, but she couldn't form a sentence. Instead she resorted to sobbing uncontrollably into her best friends shoulder. "What did he say about me?" She asked, when she had calmed down enough to be able to speak.
"Not much." She said. "He said that he saw you on the ground but you ran off. Then he said he felt ill, so he want to bed. He didn't look too good... So what's up?"
"It's just...memories. I think I need to go home." Hermione seemed to see that there was something else to it, but she left it alone.
"I can take you to the burrow if you want? You're parents left a couple of hours ago." Ginny looked confused. "I can take you by side-apparition."
"But we're still inside the castle."
"Blimey, you don't really think those protections still work, do you?" Ginny shook her head. "So, do you want to go now?"
"I need to pack my trunk."
"I got it." She said, and with a wave of her wand, all of Ginnys possessions flew through the air, and neatly packed themselves into the trunk. Then Hermione made it move over to the bedside, and stood up, holding out her arm for Ginny to take. "Shall we go." Ginny nodded, and hauled herself out of bed. "I'll tell the others where you are when we get back. Actually..." She pulled out her wand again, and conjured a patronus. "Tell Harry and Ron that I've found Ginny, and I'm taking her to the Burrow. I'll be back soon." And with that, she thrust the trunk int Ginny's grasp, grabbed her other arm, and they disapeared. Hermione had been right, the protections most definately werent working, and they landed at the safe point for the Burrow.
"Ginny, dear." Her mother called. So Hermione had already told them I was coming home. "Come on, dear, let's get you home." Together, the three women trudged up the muddy path to the Burrow. "Arthur, Ginny's home!" Molly called through the doorway.
"Splendid." Her father called back. "Does she want soup?"
"Ginny, would you like some soup? Hermione?" Ginny nodded quickly, she was starving. Hermione, however, seemed a bit more hesitant.
"I don't know, I really should be -" She began, but Molly cut her off.
"Nonsense. Look at you, you're all skin and bones. When was the last time you had a decent meal?"
"Erm..." Truth was, Hermione couldn't remember the last time she'd had a decent meal.
"See? Come on now, dear, the soup is ready." And with out further ado, Mrs. Weasley pushed the two in, and closed the door. "Soup all round, dear." She announced as she strolled over to her husband and gently pecked him on the cheek. Ginny sighed slightly as her mother passed her a steaming bowl of tomato soup. She didn't care about the soup, she wanted Harry.
"Is there any way we could join you for lunch, Mrs. Weasley?" Ginny knew that voice like the back of her hand. It was Harry.
