Chapter 3

Her eyes flew open, the morning light was already streaming through her curtains. Ginny smiled to herself as she got out of bed. Today was the day. She could leave now. She had already taken Hermione's old 'bigger-on-the-inside' bag, and packed everything she thought she would need. After changing into some jeans, and hoisting the bag over her shoulder, she decided to write a quick note to her parents, to explain... sort of.

Mum, Dad, people.

I'm leaving now. Don't try to find me. I'll be fine. Mione knows why. Love you all.

Bye.

Her messy scrawl was barely ledgible, but no doubt there was a spell for that. If there was, Hermione would know it. She whipped out her wand, and left.

The dark pain that was apparition, ended, and Kings Cross station expanded before her eyes. There was probably somewhere she could hide here, in the middle of the biggest city in England. They wouldn't find her here.

She decided she needed a plan. And a job. And a house. And - Well, she'd start with those three, then build from there.

Where do muggles get jobs if they have no OWL's or NEWT's. What did they even measure intelligence in? Gah, she probably should have planned further ahead. Then she remembered; She didn't have to. She was a wizard, and could use that to her advantage. She mentally facepalmed.

Now, probably best to get a job at a low key place. Like a cafe. Yeah, she could be a waitress. She finally started moving out of the station, which was a good thing, as she was starting to attract a lot of unwanted attention. She really had to stop zoning out.

When she'd found a cafe with a 'Employees needed' sign, she waltzed in, and straight up to the desk.

"Hello?" She asked, a little more timid that usual. The woman behind the desk looked up, then broke into a wide, fake, smile.

"And what may I get for you today, madam?" The woman droned by heart.

"I saw you were looking for employees, so I wondered if I could help?" Ginny asked. The woman looked a bit suspicious. "I really need a job, please?"

"How old are you?"

"Just turned nineteen, miss." She huffed a bit, then nodded.

"We just need someone to wait on tables, and take orders. It's £6 an hour, and you'll be here from 9 in the morning 'till 5. You may have a one hour lunch break between 12:30 and 1:30. That sound okay?" Ginny wasn't sure how much £6 was, but assumed it would be enough to live on, so she nodded her head. The woman said. "Good. We close for lunch soon, you can fill out the paperwork then, and after that you can start. Do you mind starting today, or would you rather wait until tomorrow?"

"Today's fine, thanks." The woman smiled again.

"We probably have a spare uniform in the back. Also, if you damage anything, you must buy a new one, if you upset the customers, you will get one warning, then you will be sacked. Any questions?"

"Thanks. May I wait at a table until lunch?"

"You must buy something to sit in here." The woman smiled. A sickly smile. Ginny didn't like the woman, but she needed a job. She pulled out a £2 pound coin that she had taken from her dads stash, and handed it to the woman, ordering an 'Americano'.

Ginny had always wanted to go to America, so when they had won the money, almost 5 years ago, she had campaigned to go there. But everyone else had decided Egypt, so they had gone ther. It hadn't been bad. But it hadn't been America.

She sat down in a corner with a mug of steaming 'coffee' held tightly between her hands. Mr. Weasley sometimes drank coffee for breakfast, but Ginny had never tried it. She carefully sipped the dark liquid. It was wonderful. Slightly bitter, but nothing sugar couldn't cure.

The 30 minutes passed with Ginny just sitting at her table, drinking the luscious coffee, and trying to form a plan.

Job: Check!

"Young Lady? We're closing for lunch now, i you would like to come into the office, we can sort out the paperwork." Ginny smiled and stood up, carrying her empty mug to the counter.

"Umm, miss?"

"Yes dear?" Ginny held her mug up.

"Where do I put this?"

"Just leave it on a table, the girls will clean it up." Ginny carefully placed the mug on a nearby table, and followed the woman through to the office. The woman sat down behind a desk, and motioned for Ginny to sit down too. "Sorry, I didn't catch your name, sweetheart?" Oh, shoot. Think fast, Ginny!

"M-Molly."

"Nice to meet you Molly, I'm Henrietta, but you can call me Henri, if you prefer."

"Same to you, Henri." I smiled, shaking her outstretched hand.

*At 6pm that evening*

Ginny had made friends with one of the other waitresses at the cafe, called Elliott. They had immediately hit it off. Elliott was carefree, always laughing, and so easy to get along with.

"So, where do you live, Molly?" Elliott asked her, as they left the shop. Ginny looked at her feet.

"I actually havent found a place to live yet. I just moved here from the country, you see?"

"That's fine, you can bunk with me! It gets lonely in my flat." Ginny was amazed that someone she had known for such a short time could be so kind.

"Are you sure?" She asked Elliott hesitantly, afraid the girl may have been joking.

"Of course I am! We can't have you staying out on the streets." Elliott smiled warmly at her. "Come on now, let's go. I don't live far from here."
