I groan and wake up to my loud alarm. I hit my phone and wipe my hand over my face to tired for this. One thing for sure is I'm not a morning person. I sit up in bed and grab a nicer outfit for today, reaching for a black button up shirt and simple blue jeans. Mama is probably still making breakfast. We where up late watching TV together for my fifteenth birthday. But life must go on... I get dressed and dab a bit of foundation on my eye bags. I've never been a fan of makeup but if people bug me less with their worries I'll do it. I quickly do my hair putting it in a slicked back bun with a few curls hanging out. I want to look put together today. I walk out my room and smile at my mama getting over my morning mourning. "Morning Mama!" She looks back and smiles at me, she looks more tired the older I get but she still looks beautiful to me. She speaks and sets some eggs on the table, "Morning Dear. Do you want some hot sauce with your eggs?" "Yes please!" I say back with a smile and sit at the table. It's a nice weekend and one of the hero companies I want to intern at is offering a tour and interviews. I take the hot sauce with a smile and eat my eggs after adding a decent amount. I wave my mama goodbye as I leave soon after I finish and put my plate up. She waves bye as well calling out, "Don't do anything stupid!" I laugh and lock the door behind me after I grab my bag. I head out towards a bus stop looking at all the apartments around us. We have our own house due to it being from my mamas inheritance but despite having that we aren't upper class really. Just comfortable, but my mom works two jobs and I chip in when I can, especially for holidays. I get the money from random gigs really. The bus comes a few minutes off but that's fine, I board along with three others and pay the fee. I sit in the back and play music in my headphones, it's an old artist but their songs are nice for mornings. They are called Daisy the Great. I almost don't notice my stop, messily rushing off when we arrive at the very tall and modern looking glass building. A large statue of a famous hero stands in front, Midas. His hero name is obviously meant to be related to gold. It's because he was always the number one from what I hear. His power? Flight, but with how much muscle he has sometimes I'm not sure. He looks straight out a vintage comic, but that tends to be a given with older heroes. I walk past his statue when I notice I was lingering. I realize I'm early anyways. I see the tour guide, a smaller hero I don't know but the costume instead of business attire gives them away. I wave and they wave back in a friendly manner. I see a few others there early for the tour. One thing I notice is that a few have obvious powers. One looks almost electrified, with standing up hair and sparks, and another has stone looking fists that shed dust when it's flexed at all. Others are almost invisible but they have this aura to them. I wish I had a power right now because I feel like I stick out. Sticking out is never fun, to much drama and people aren't a huge like of mine. I watch the others arrive, starting to stop noting their powers to help my anxiety. The tour guide loudly clears their throat, "Hello to you all! It might seem obvious but near all of you are aspiring heroes! You all have something unique to add to our world, and many you could save. My hero name is Sol. I can control and concentrate light with my hands!" The man pauses, his hair is in dark longer dreads with gold rings around some of them, his skin looks sun kissed and his eyes are kind. His outfit is a all white cloak with a gold sun. I miss a few words due to distracting myself with his style. "-ro Midas founded this place and it is one of the most populated hero companies in our world! At the end of this tour those of you who signed up already will meet with me and we will discuss internship here! We start at 15 so our heroes have plenty of time to learn and prepare before they rise up! Those who make it will also be taken on missions at times!" I hear excited whispering from them after that. He snaps for attention and it flashes a spark of light. I can testify that this works because I immediately snapped my head back and followed him. We first went to the offices, he explained that with every heroic act comes the necessary paperwork. Yet many employees will often do the majority for you. We then went to the training grounds and he pointed out a few machines I didn't care for. We kept going up and up skipping floors that where private to certain heroes. Eventually we hit floor 101. I finally pay attention in detail to what he says after I hear him say at last, "This is the floor I will interview five of you on. The rest of you can admire the view and then go back to the bottom floor please, and I hope we meet again!" I'm surprised when it's only five of us but I realize many might be hesitant. I see the electric girl stay, along with a boy who almost flickers in and out of sight. Another person who really just looks normal despite two large bat like wings. The last one just looks muscular to me. He goes first. I know I'm last. I watch him walk in with Sol looking very confident. The Electric girl looks to me. I've already decided to call her spark in my head. I smile politely and she seems to take that as an invitation to talk, "Hello! The name is Felicity Raduos!" She seems electric inside and out. I'm almost sad I barely got to use my nickname, I respond though, "My name is Nouvel Hada." I say politely, my voice came out softer then I thought it would but I haven't talked since I left home. I note her appearance to, she has very yellowish blonde hair and a pale freckled complexion. She looks kind to me. Oh I'm way to sidetracked today, I focus back in on her voice, "-o you want to be a hero to!? Oh wait that's a dumb question- your here aren't you? Do you have any power? Oh that's rude to ask! Is it? Do you?" In my brain she talks faster then an old commercial listing it's faults. I stutter trying to start, "Oh- Uh- I- Uh... Ummmm... Yes I really aspire to be a hero, and no it's not rude to ask. I do not have a power but I think that I'm skilled enough to be a hero with training." I say gaining confidence in the end, my smile heard in my voice. Felicity seems like she was about to cheer me on or something but they call her in. That much time passed? I'm not aware today at all. She waves goodbye. I wait for a decent bit outside time feeling slower now. When she comes out she is sparking so much I feel like a storm is coming despite the clear skies. She is smiling so wide I'm surprised it doesn't hurt, she nods to me and walks away as I'm called in, "Nouvel!" I walk in slowly, carefully masking my anxiety as I sit politely. Sol looks at me but his face looks more stern then kind now. He speaks, "So I've looked over the information you've provided, which is very thorough, but I will cut to the main thing here. You have no power. You are an ordinary citizen and frankly I don't think you are up to our standards." My blood runs cold and I feel like there are rocks in my throat. How did this go so horribly already. Is the world really this against me? I speak up, "So you are rejecting me because I lack a power? I'm smart and an incredibly fast learner? I even have proof. I would be a great asset to the heroes if you let me." I say trying to help my case. His response is so fast I'm not sure if he was even listening... "No. perhaps you could be an office worker here one day." His hands glow and he has this insincere smile. I smile back politely hoping the sinking feeling I'm experiencing right now doesn't shine through. I want to cry but I nod and stay professional, "Well thank you for having me..." I walk out almost deaf to his response, it was something short and unemotional. I don't even notice or know how much time passed when the elevator takes me all the way down. I walk out the building barely noting it's getting dark. I don't want to tell mama that they denied me. I put on my headphones and wander aimlessly, lost in my thoughts but also thinking of nothing. The sun sets.
