Chores

A/n: this is a filler chapter but still important i promise the other chapters will be better this is my first book but im trying to get inspo
Finally it was Saturday morning. I woke up at 7am and decided to go for a run to clear my mind.I put on a pair of black leggings,a zip up jacket, my nike running shoes and I tied my hair back in a ponytail. I went downstairs without making a sound trying not to wake anyone up and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge. I left the house and shut the door behind me to see Nathan on the porch lacing up his shoes. "Oh hey" I say "Hey Elsie,are you going for a run?" Nathan looks up at me "yeah i am,do you want to go together?" I ask. I think it would be nice to go on a run with Nathan and try to get to know him better and he also shares a room with Alex so I might be able to find out more about Alex too. "Yeah of course" he says. We start to strech and then we go on our run. We didn't talk much while running because it was hard to catch our breath but we took a break here and there so I got the chance to ask a few questions "Did you speak to Alex last night?" I ask "Yeah I did,why?" He says confused, "Oh its just when I came in with Cole last night he looked kind of disappointed or mad or something" I recall "Oh right I mean,I don't know too much about that" I could tell Nathan was lying, the Walters have this 'no snitching' rule where they dont tattletale on eachother but I didn't dig too deep into it so we continued our run and on the rest of our breaks it was just general questions about school and stuff. We get back to the ranch and see George outside raking some leaves "How was your guy's run?" George says "Good thanks" I reply "Saturday is chore day by the way Elsie your list is inside,you can start when you want as long as it's done by tonight" I nod and head inside for a shower.

After I shower and get ready for the day i head down the stairs to find my chore list on the island table in the kitchen
•clean horse stable
•do the dishes
•organise mess on the porch
seems easy enough I thought and I didn't mind doing chores either on the weekend it kept me busy.
I put on my converse and head outside to the stables with a bucket of soapy water,a broom and a rake.I started the stables and was halfway done when I heard Alex come over "Hey Alex" I said "Hey" he replied coming back to the stables with one of the horses "Whos this?" I ask,the horse was a light brown with a dark mane "Oh this is Murphy, hes my favourite one" he said petting the horses muzzle "Wow hes beautiful" and he really was."Did you ever ride?" Alex asks "I got lessons before but that was a few years ago" I say "Let me teach you" he says "hop on". "I still have to finish my chores" I say "They can wait" he says smiling and getting the other horse out the stable which im guessing is Cole's horse and he jumps on. I was reluctant to go at first but I decided to give in.We went around the ranch on the horses and I got the hang of it pretty quick "How long have you been riding?" I asked "All my life, everyone in my family has but im the only one who does rodeos" He looked down on the floor "Hey where were you and Cole last night" He said which caught me by suprise "I went to get pizza with some friends and I didn't know my way home so I called the house phone and he picked up" Now I was looking down at the floor "Nothing happened I promise" "Oh cool I was just wondering because it was so late and you weren't home" I could tell he was lieing,when me and Cole came in the door last night together he looked like he seen a ghost.He quickly changed the subject when we sat in silence for a few seconds "I actually have a rodeo tommorow my mom asked me to ask you if you wanted to go" he said looking at me "Yeah I'll definitely go, whos going to be there?" I ask hoping he wouldn't say Cole "Just my dad everyone else is busy" "Cool i'll go but what do I wear? I've never been to a rodeo before" "Whatever you want" he says smiling "No Alex you have to help me pick an outfit come on" I say jumping off the horse and walking back up to the house "Okay okay wait up" he follows me.

"What are my options" Alex says sitting on the edge of my bed. I pull out 3 tops,2 jeans,3 dresses and my cowboy boots from some boxes I still haven't unpacked yet "Okay so pick from these" I say looking at all the choices "I think that dress would look pretty on you" he says pointing at a white dress with a bit of puff on the shoulders "I agree" i say holding it up "but dont forget this"he goes over and grabs a cowboy hat off a hook on the wall im guessing it was Katherines because my room now used to be her art room. "No way am I wearing that hat" I say as he puts it on my head "Aw come on it looks great" I take it off and try putting it on Alex but he keeps moving so I can't get it on him "Ugh just let me put it on you" I say laughing "I like it when you smile,Its cute" he says and I pause I could feel a thousand butterflies flying around my stomach Alex just called me cute and I didn't know what to say I stood there with no expression on my face but he could probably tell how I was feeling because I was so red. Katherine opened my door and seen me and Alex standing there about an inch away from eachother "Whats happening here?" she said looking concerned "Oh Alex was just helping me pick out an outfit for tommorows rodeo" I reply "Great you're going to go?" she says "Yeah I am" I say looing at Alex then looking back at Katherine "Your going to have loads of fun and also before I forget,Alex can you come downstairs and help me set the dining table?" she says "Yeah sure" Alex replys and heads downstairs behind Katherine.
