Raelynn's POV
The sun set. Eleanor and I watched the streaking colors of light colors fade into black. Crickets began chirping, and other night sounds could be heard. I shifted uncomfortably. This was the most dangerous time to be in the woods. All the monsters that live in the darkest folds come out and come prowling for unsuspecting prey. Eleanor qualified.
I curled up close against her, keeping her safe. Her glare suggested she was good, but I ignored it. She was precious to me. I wasn't going to take any chances. Sisters protect each other, and I considered her a sister. We were in this together now.
"Sleep tight," I murmured to her, and she grunted in response. Relaxing her body, she curled up next to me with her head nestled in my skin. I dropped my head and drifted off into a realm of being half awake and half asleep. Like normal horses, we can wake at the slightest warning and take off before we get caught. I have to do the same thing to escape predators.
I believe we stay like this for a couple of hours before danger strikes. A roar wakes me at about 3 in the morning. Eleanor is still asleep, unaware of the boar that is approaching. It's huge, and it's tusks are half the size of it's body. Beady black eyes glare at me, then catch the sight of Eleanor, who's probably smelling like a tasty meal. An easy victim for a hungry animal. The creature snorts with anticipation. It paws the ground, eyeing me. After labeling me as no threat, it pounces. Wrong move, I think. I attacked.

Eleanor's POV
I was woken by some unwanted screaming. Or, should I say, growling and roaring. Raelynn was gone from my side. That, I could already tell without opening my eyes. I felt colder without her furry warmth that acted as a pillow and blanket.
I groaned, "What the hell's going on?" When no answer came, I decided to open my eyes and examine the commotion. Instead, I opened my eyes to a very furry animal with huge teeth and drool coming down on me. To say I panicked is an understatement. I went completely nuts.
"AHHHHHH THERE'S AN UGLY SOMETHING LOOKING AT ME MAKE IT STOOOOPPP!" I hollered. Then, something white knocked it away. Ahhh, Raelynn to the rescue. Unicorns are awesome. I watched her tackle the beast away from me. The beast, which I now knew was a pig kind of animal, looked mad that it didn't get the chance to kill me. "Yeah dude, I got a unicorn on my side!" I jeered. The creature didn't like that. It sprung at me again, but a bright beam of energy vaporized it on the spot. Ashes fell onto the mossy floor. The beast was gone.
I stared, jaw dropped, at my friend whose horn was steaming. "You-you-"
"Yeah," she confirmed. "I have powers."
I had the nerve to laugh. "That's so freaking cool! I want those!"
"They come with a cost."
"Wait. Oh yeah, right. Thanks."
"No problem. Try to sleep more."
Sleeping seemed impossible, but I snuggled into Raelynn once more, grateful of a super duper amazing friend with powers that vaporize monsters with one shot. Soon, I fell asleep again.
