(Mavis's pov)

I finally got away from my household. I was packing my bags into the coach excitedly so it could take my class from NYC to Boston.

I'm super hyped because I never really left New York except for the time when my school went on a trip to Washington DC.

I had to work extra hours to get money to pay for this and beg my mother Bridget to let me go but surprisingly I did it and she finally agreed.

My relationship with Mom wasn't great, it never has been. She's a junky just like my stepfather Brandon and his son Lucas. I fucking hate this family.

I don't remember much from my childhood up until I was around 7. It's weird because my "parents" who don't act like parents most of the time, won't show me any pictures of little me.

Whenever I ask it would end in an argument and a beating. Like, don't get me wrong I love my mom but her love interest and his son were horrible.

Me and Lucas never had that sibling bond because he's been abusive toward me my whole life. He beat me and called me names. He's abusive physically and verbally but I got used to it at some point even tho it caused me a lot of trauma and issues.

It still does.

I always admired when someone's brother was protective over his siblings because I never experienced that from my brother.

Same with my „dad", it's weird calling him that because he isn't my father and he will never be. I actually don't know who my biological father is, I just stopped caring at some point... maybe I didn't stop caring for real I just stopped showing it and letting it affect me in any way.

Okay, Mavis focus don't let this ruin your trip.

My class loaded up onto the bus and I sat next to my best friend, Parker. He was my hero, it may sound weird but he is even tho he probably doesn't know it.

We've been friends since I can remember and he's the only one that knows the real me. He feels like my real brother.

"You alright Vee?" Parker's voice snaps me out of my thoughts. "What? Oh, yeah sorry" I smile up at him taking out my airpods and giving him one so we can listen to music together.

I put my Spotify playlist on shuffle as the first song plays "Nuts" by Lil Peep and Rainy Bear. It's one of my favorites and so is Parker's.

I lay my head back down on his shoulder closing my eyes and getting completely lost in the music. It was kinda sad that I won't be seeing my friend group from a different school for a week but we're planning a party after me and Parks come back.

„Finally! Jesus, I couldn't sit in my seat any longer." I say stretching a little after we finally got off the bus in Boston.

"Yeah, me too" Parker sighed exhausted from the ride even tho he slept through most of it. He handed me my suitcase and we made our way to the hotel lobby right after our classmates.

We had to wait for a little before our teacher got all the room keys. I was standing right next to a group of loud girls that I genuinely HATED.

They were loud, mean, unfunny, fake and they thought they were popular even tho everyone accepted the also loud and annoying boys hated them.

Pick me ass bitches...

I'll have to share a room with some of them because they won't put a girl and a boy together in one room. I get it if it was for those girls standing right next to me but I really would prefer to live with Parker but „rules are rules".

I mentally rolled my eyes remembering Mrs. Jacobs's voice. I don't like that woman too.

After what felt like hours we got assigned to our room and of course, I had to be in a room with the fake girls Cady, Brooklyn, and Holly.

It's gonna be a long trip.

Parker laughed hearing who I was gonna be living with so I glared at him "Good luck, Maeve." He smirked walking away with a group of guys.

Okay, Mavis deep breaths just be nice to them... be nice.

I put on a fake smile and turned around to face them. "So... Which room is ours?" I tried talking to them so it wouldn't be so awkward but I think I made it worse.

Cady looked at me with a judgemental look sending me a smile even faker than mine.
"Number 16 on the second floor." I just nodded.

Talking to them isn't even worth it. I'll just try to spend the least amount of time around them.

We grabbed our bags and headed for the elevator. Cady as "the Queen" of the pathetic group opened our door.

The weird grandma smell hit me as soon as I walked through the doorframe.

Oh hell nah.

The girls made a disgusting face as their eyes looked around. I'm not gonna lie it was ugly but what were they expecting? A five-star hotel? This is a school trip, not a vacation.

The walls were kind of yellowish but I think they were white at some point. There were 4 wooden beds with a brown blanket that looked like it'd already lived its life at least 10 times. Next to the beds were also wooden nightstands but they were a completely different type of tree so it didn't much.

Same for the bathroom. Orange tiles covered the floor and half of the wall. Round mirror with a plastic frame a sink with no space to put stuff on and a weird green rug between the toilet and shower.

Wonderful.

I'm not gonna complain because I lived in the worst places but I could hear the girls making disgusted noises from the back.

I put my bags on one of the beds and left the room making my way to find Parker.
