- Third Person POV -

Silas Rossi had always been one of the smaller boys in his class. He had never really fit in with the other boys and girls in his classes; not even back home in his own family. When he was born, his father immediately saw him as the runt, the odd one out in his family.

He wasn't much younger than his three older brothers, but they still had always made sure that it was clear to him, that he didn't fit in. He never had anyone to run to, rather his brothers just turning a blind eye to what their father did to him. His mother didn't even bother with him, choosing to ignore his cries and pleas for it to all stop.

The poor boy just wanted someone to love him for who he was. He knew, from a very young age, that his parents didn't care nor love him like they loved his older brothers. He knew, that his older brothers, were too wrapped up with their parents, to not give him a second thought, because, why would they?

Silas didn't think that he was anyone special. He had no natural born talent like his brothers did for the work that they had been born into. He was interested in learning to kill someone or stealing from other people. He didn't understand why people couldn't just have peace with one another, and when word got around to his father about his 3 year old son and peace, everything crumbled for the boy.

His father, Damian Rossi, was the underdog, or better known as the second in command to the Italian Mafia Boss, Joseph Moretti. This meant that all the cars he drove and houses in his name were all thanks to his best mate, Joseph. Both of their parents had been involved in the Italian Mafia, so it was only right for them to be involved, and their families.

So, in Damian's eyes, if his youngest son was as weak and had a drive for peace, he would have to fight to prove to his father that it was just something his small little brain had thought up, and he hadn't actually been shown what he was meant for in this world. Silas' father thought that he could beat it out of his own son, which meant that hurting his son was all the more okay.

Of course, Silas knew that it wasn't right. From the way that he was kept home from school some days, just so his father could make sure that he couldn't talk nor walk about talking about peace. Eventually, Damian had broken his youngest child, at the age of 7, leaving him permanently traumatized of going home.

At the age of 8, Silas was sent of to boarding school, where no one stood by him to send him off, as he packed everything he owned into a suitcase and a backpack, and got his own way to the airport. He made it there on his own, and got himself settled into boarding school. For the first four years there, he heard nothing from his family, and they heard nothing from him.

He enjoyed it, for a little while, as he no longer lived in fear of going home from school. What he did miss, was the boy that had saved him occasionally at school from the bullies. For being so much smaller than some of the boys in his year, meant that he was easily picked on and bullied for his size. Not only was it at home, but it seemed to follow him everywhere.

His name was Ace, but Silas knew that Ace would forget about him. Ace had plenty of other friends and a good family life, or at least better than his own, and knew that Silas disappearing for the rest of his life would make no difference to the slightly older boy. It never made any difference to anyone else, so why would it change Ace, that his little friend had gone.

What Silas would never know, was Ace saw himself a little, in Silas. He saw the scared little boy and had vowed to himself that he would protect the bruised and battered boy with his life. What Ace never knew was it was his fathers coworkers son, that he had wanted so badly to protect. Neither of them knew that their families were so intertwined, and that one of them would pay the price for it.

So, when Ace arrived at the boarding school and was put into the only open dorm with Silas, Giovanni Ferrari, who also came from a awful family background, and Theodore Colombo, who was better off at boarding school than home, they would never admit to one another how they made the other more comfortable and safe than they did when they were back at home with their families.

But Silas knew that he would never be welcome back home, so when Ace had said he was going home, he knew that he couldn't stay at the boarding school any longer, where he had hid out for almost the past 10 years. He had gone 10 years without contact to his family, only the school sending the rare letter home to tell them that he was still alive.

He had gone so long without his father beating him till he was nearly on his death bed. What Silas didn't know was that his other two friends, Giovanni and Theodore, lived a similar life, but that was a story for another time. Silas wasn't prepared for the sight at Ace's house, with the yelling and screaming.

He hated it, as it reminded him of home. Silas was then later kicked out of the house, and forced to find somewhere else. He told Ace, who had apologized profusely and told him to stay, but he couldn't. He thought that he had overstayed, and Ace's older brother wouldn't like it. Silas was a people pleaser at any chance that he could get.

So, Silas took cover with Gio and Theo, who had been at the boarding school for almost as long as he had been there. They had formed a great friendship, but it wasn't the same anymore with Ace. But, the three took a cover at Gio's mothers house, as he had found out that his parents had divorced a few months after he had left for boarding school at the age of 12.

Neither one of Theo's or Silas' parents wanted to see either of their sons, so they hid out for the most of it. When Silas caught wind of Ace going back to the local school, he knew that he should try and find a way to get them all back together, but what he wasn't expecting, was for his father to find him, helping Ace, and later be taken back home.

He was stripped of his clothes, and battered until you couldn't tell that he was a 17 year old boy. His father than tried to light the place on fire, but made a mistake, and Silas was able to gather some clothes from the place that he had been taken and make a run for it. He didn't make it far the first time, as he passed out in the nearby forest, before he made it further.

Somehow, he had made it to the outskirts of Gio's mothers place before passing out on the driveway from heat exhaustion and his beating. He was saved by his friends, but at what cost? What more did he have to lose to finally be able to get a break from the life he had had his entire life, of running away from his own family?
