juniper hansen was your typical sweetheart. it didn't really matter who it was, if she could be nice to them, she would. she wasn't the type that was meant for the apocalypse world. she wouldn't hurt a fly, as it was a living thing. it was against her beliefs to kill any living thing. that's generally why she fit in so well with the greene family.
the day the world had fallen, maggie and juniper had been out shopping together. maggie and juniper has come across a blood covered man literally tearing into the neck of a dead woman.
maggie had dragged the shocked redhead out of the store, the two moving quickly. juniper felt like everything was moving in slow motion, though, her eyes still wide. juniper could barely focus on her best friend's hand leave her arm before she was being pushed into a truck.
maggie was in the driver seat in minutes, starting the truck and taking off. maggie herself had her own mind swirling with thoughts but from the shocked look on her friends face to the drive back to the greene's farm, she didn't have the time to focus on it. she had to get home. get juniper to safety. that's what mattered to her in that moment.
juniper finally felt it all hit her and she let out a small sob. her head snapped towards maggie, eyes wide. "do you think- do you think she's dead?"
maggie bit her lip, not wanting to say yes incase it send her friends mind further into the spiral it was already taking. she didn't want to say no either because she also wasn't sure what that'd answer do for her friend.
"oh my god. what if- what if he killed her? maggie, she could be dead. oh my god." juniper's voice shook, as did every part of her body. everything felt like it was on autopilot but her mind wouldn't stop running. thoughts of the man and woman kept rushing through. what if the man had killed that woman? what if he was just sick? why did that man even do that? she wasn't entirely sure, but she couldn't handle it. "please pull over."
"i can't, june. we have to get back to the farm." maggie's voice was the most reassuring sound juniper had in that moment, but it still didn't make the nausea the woman was feeling disperse. she wanted to throw up, the bile in the back of her throat threatening to leave at any moment.
"maggie, please." her voice cracked and maggie reluctantly pulled over. the redhead was out in an instant, emptying her stomach on the side of the road. maggie was out of the truck quickly, jumping to hold her friend's hair back. juniper was always pro life. the girl couldn't hurt a fly. the only thing she was barely okay with killing was a spider, and that was barely. so, the image of a man eating a woman's flesh sickened her.
maggie held the red locks back with one hand, using her other to run soothing circles on her back. once it seemed juniper was done, maggie led her back to the truck, opening the door for her again. juniper was quiet the rest of the way to the farm, her mind doing enough work for her.
if she could get away with never harming someone, she would. that was her plan in life. save who she could and do what she could. it was why she'd gone to school for psychology. she couldn't handle blood, so she couldn't be a nurse or a vet, so she found something just as good.
her plan in life failed miserably. she couldn't save the woman in the store. it only made her wonder just how many other people she'd fail to save as the world continued to fall. and that thought alone terrified the woman.
