I've been having a hard time adjusting
I had the shiniest wheels,
now they're rusting
I didn't know if you'd care if I came back
I have a lot of regrets about that

...
It had been a long day and she had lab after the lectures of the day. As always she had retreated to the library in lunch instead of the cafeteria. She just needed peace and books.
So she had been late to the lab cause no one had been there to keep track of time. Her professor let her in anyway. A lot of kids were often late to the lab after lunch.
The heat was already getting to her. Though the nights got cold, the days were still hot. They had to perform three tests today. She had dragged through the first two, the group just shuffled through the chemicals together, the usual chatter not stopping. She was too tired to add anything to the conversation.
She was too tired for everything these days, she had received a B in one of the many papers she had submitted, it was one of the assignments she worked so hard on, it wasn't bad she had told herself, it wasn't bad but she had worked so hard and it wasn't good enough and that was enough to bring her down and she was freaking out she'd crossed the field and he'd been there and she slowly forgot about the B, maybe she'll forgive herself for it.
They were on their third experiment when she felt everything go dizzy. Christina was the closest to her. So she handed over her test tube to her as she sat on the nearest chair.
Even on closing her eyes, the world didn't seem to stop shaking. She tried to open her eyes again, everything was blurry. Oh the heatstroke was getting her bad.
She just sat there for a minute. Christina came back after, she had added the chemicals they were in line for, after a little fight for having two test tubes. The others had gone ahead. She just told Christina she was going to have water and be back. So she left the test tube and stand with Dan who was ahead of them surprisingly and headed over to the racks at the start to have some water.
Then everything went blurry again. She really was regretting library time right now. She just needed it to stop. She had water and waited by the side for a bit. Dan and Lacey came in a few minutes to check on her but she just brushed it off.
Christina had overtaken Dan by the time she was back, "that also with two test tubes" because she had been doing Sloanes experiment as well, which made the win greater.
Sloane was just grateful to be out. Professor M did tell her that she looked under the weather as she left and told her to get checked for the flu, but she just thanked her and left there. This time her friends were insisting that she come with them to the cafeteria but she didn't want the break, so she told them she was meeting Lucas and headed to her room. She picked up a roll from the cafeteria with her friends and then left.
The respite from the flames and heat of the lab already had her feeling better as she reached her room, still she went in for a shower then pressed play on the movie she was watching and started eating her sandwich.
As soon as she was done with that she started her assignments again.
Lost in the assignment she was interrupted by banging on the door. It wasn't knocking, it was banging.
Standing there was Lucas, he had a milkshake in one hand and a huge bag in the other.
