"Miss you Auntie!!!"
Sunhee got up from her seat to kiss mother Song's cheek happily. Unlikely to the older woman and the girl's content, Mingi's discontent caused him to make a gagging sound which the other two could care less.
"Me too, dear." Offering her favorite girl a sweet smile, Mrs. Song squeezed Sunhee's hand. "Tell the maids if you want more." She motioned to the bowls of ingredients on the table where the youngsters were surrounding.
"It's nice to see you two hanging out again right, son?" The woman said, directing an amusing smile towards her son who was quick to look back at her with panicked eyes. Then, she left the kitchen as swift as how she came in.
After Mingi unexpectedly dropped by Sunhee's room a week ago, the two started hanging out again. Let's say their dynamic was almost the same, like nothing altered, like nothing shifted to something else.
Mingi felt it ever since that summer when he was eight. As he couldn't pinpoint what exactly it was, he just let it be like a wind stroking his cheeks, carefree and naive.
Until it blew up, he drifted away from her intentionally.
Because. How could he imagine growing such a feeling for this girl? This girl who ordered him to shut up when he wanted her attention. This girl who threw crumbled papers at him because she felt offended by something he blurted out without attentive thoughts. This girl who acted on her own belief despite people's judgement. This girl who had the prettiest eyesmile he had ever seen...
Like seriously? She grew up so well and became a little pretty for her own good.
Oh boy, avoiding her didn't make him happy either. As he noticed there were some guys in class who couldn't take their eyes off of her, the tiny ache in his heart rooted deeper. He was on edge.
Eventually, Mingi got to accept this nagging feeling as a part of himself.
Later that day, he came up to her room, to fix his mess of stupidity. His investigation room joke failed miserably and he found himself being a loser. Nervousness turned him into a fool as he looked down at her. Especially when he noticed her hair went back to his favorite length.
Did she know his liking for her long hair or something?
"SONG MINGI!"
Snapping out of his own reverie, Mingi saw Sunhee staring straight at him, mix of annoyance and concern on her face.
"Why are you shouting?" His hands moved away from both sides of his face as they grabbed onto the kitchen counter to adjust his sitting position on the tall stool.
"Because you didn't even hear what I said." From the other side of the counter, she looked at him with judging eyes. "Do you want to add coconut milk?"
"Coconut milk with watermelon and kiwi? Doesn't sound good. I don't wanna brace the toilet for dear life."
"There's even a recipe. Does that mean it's safe? Looks yummy too!" She showed him her phone where the said recipe displayed as she had searched, only for him to looked at her like she was an alien.
"No." Mingi dismissed the idea in a heartbeat and quickly dropped the freshly cut pieces of watermelon into the blender. "Kiwi is enough for watermelon popsicles."
"You scaredy cat," Sunhee mumbled which he heard but chose to ignore.
He had a crush on Lee Sunhee who was the authentic herself. No doubt. But he could not blindly trust whatever (crazy) idea she had.
