Note: I apologise for any inaccuracies whilst writing this book in relation to the-The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Trilogy, please feel free to correct me if any of the movie/book facts are incorrect. Most of the information regarding the character appearances, voices etc. will be based off movie qualities (as I fell in love with the actor choices of the film) and so again, I apologise if this offends book readers.
Lucy Gray Baird gently traced her fingers through her brunette locks as she gazed into the mirror. Reflecting back at Lucy was the image of whom she deemed a survivor, rather than a winner of the 10th annual Hunger Games. Being at the bright age of eighteen as of present, Lucy failed to feel any sort of brightness but rather sorrow, as she recollected the events which had transpired within that arena, two years ago.
The trauma itself which followed from her time within the games became bearable when accompanied by Coriolanus Snow, her past lover. At the time, Lucy had felt a sense of relatability and companionship from Coriolanus, which stemmed from the hardships she was forced to endure.
Shortly after the 12th Hunger Games, Coriolanus and Lucy sought peaceful refuge within district 12. The two were surrounded by the soft, tranquil sounds of water flowing across the river, the calming breeze of air, the lively Covey and the presence of aquatic plants which Lucy often referred to as Katniss.
The connection which developed from the fondness Coriolanus and Lucy shared for one another evolved into a deep loving, to which the two deepened by making their relationship official. Their love was the inexplicable type, one that many, including Sejanus, jubilantly celebrated with the couple. Within a year, Lucy was given the privilege of meeting Tigris, Coriolanus' cousin and Grandma'am, their grandmother who felt sympathy for the girl's hardships. More importantly was it that they quickly welcomed Lucy, considering her a good influence on Coriolanus, who appeared brighter when surrounded by the girl's presence.
What was thought to be a kind visit to the Capitol to see Coriolanus' family soon transpired into an unpleasant development when the couple were encountered by Dr. Volumnia Gaul. The Head Gamemaker was less than pleased when discovering the status of the two individuals, as she desired Coriolanus to join her in further advancing the games.
Dr. Volumnia Gaul was quick to execute a plan in acquiring Coriolanus in light of her own personal pursuits by offering him a high position as her apprentice, with the catch of ending his relationship with Lucy. Lucy was all but devastated upon the knowledge that Coriolanus had accepted the Head Gamemaker's proposition, and fallen into his hungry lust for power once more. She refused to accept it for some time, as she stayed within the Capitol to find reason and approach Coriolanus. However when she had found him dressed in his red blazer, with a look described with pure lack of emotion and interest, Lucy knew that Coriolanus had succumb to the power. He dared not utter more than a few words to Lucy, only mere barks to return to district 12 and get out of his sight. With that, a heavily-hearted Lucy had been all but forced out of the capitol by peacekeepers and a grinning Dr. Volumnia Gaul.
Even presently, as Lucy look into her reflection by once more returning to the present, she could see a slither of a tear escape her brown eyes, glossed with emotion. Before the tear could drop, Lucy hastily wiped it away with frustration and a fuelled anger. She knew of Coriolanus and his taking to power, so she knew deep down that such an act of betrayal aught to be expected. Lucy was determined to stay firm in her resolve of not giving in to the despair over the love she had once shared with Coriolanus within the previous year.
"Lucy it's time, the reaping is to begin soon", stated Lucy's younger cousin, Maude Ivory Baird, as she walked up beside Lucy who was still sat by the mirror.
