parting her lips, the whispy girl breathed in a huge sigh, the bitter air tasting of tragedy and passion with a hint of ash that remained on her tongue from what was now the ember lit end of a cigarette. rain made wet dots in the wooden chips surrounding the flimsy dock. she could now hear it hammering down on the water, droplets splashing everywhere. the storm wasn't angry. it was pattering, humming with energy, like the back splash of an ocean tide. wishing she could stop time or at least make it go slower. to feel, remember, to see all the smallest details. wishing she could make everything an eternity ; a breath, a glance, a touch. Great jagged mountains pulled her away from her aimless daydreaming as water rippled below her feet, pondering how such beauty could somehow not be destroyed by the harrowing ugliness. much like obsidian and opal, a stark contrast to the other but disgustingly complimentary. a devious black crow perched on one of the small wooden pillars surrounding her, screeching at her, bursting her eardrums in the process. however, she took no interest in the bird. simply ignoring it and focused on chipping away the dark maroon polish that coated her nails. grabbing fistfuls of rocks and shoving them in her tatted pockets, scraps and cuts edged across her once pristine skin. stretching her arms above her head to try and forget about the harsh stinging arising in her hands, a small sliver of pale skin uncovered itself on her back. she stayed like that for a moment before her arms fell back to her sides, shoulders lifting as she took another deep breath and shoved more rocks into her pockets.

a small whimper escaped from the girls lips, as unknown to her, a broad man made of a lethal mixture of darkness and danger and wit, sure to break any girls heart - especially hers - sauntered closer to her. he looked like everything she should be afraid of but yet the blood in his scorching hot veins ran fridigly cold when he saw her. his eye twitched, breath heavy through flared nostrils. the muscle in his square jaw jumped. staying frozen. rooted to the spot. staring down at the girl.

he knew what he wanted to say to her, because he knew when she said it before it was true. he wanted to say it more than anything. the words felt like they were right there, ready to come tumbling out as recklessly as everything else did about them. but he never dared say anything. instead he stood back, hiding in the tree line gawking at the girl much like a tiger eyeing their prey ready to pounce. "idiot," he thought. "idiot, idiot, idiot. why can't you just tell her." and so the words stayed there bitterly on his tongue. the words he'd been meaning to tell her since he left her life. the words that had always been running through the back of his mind. the words that had crashed into him with momental force when he first said goodbye forever, and hadn't left since.

the once harsh mountains now faded into white dots as snow kissed the tops of them. rolling hills of green being smattered by the snow. morning fog had now finally left the valley and cleared the path for her to the water, finally being able to see her peaky reflection staring back at her. smattered villages hugged the side of the valleys in the mountains, warm toned buildings topped with terracotta shingles. becoming more and more sparse the closer she looked into the water. ever since they first met they always came here. swallowed up by the majestic beauty that was forever changing when they left and returned. it was a sacred place for them, one that they only knew and swore they would never share. secrets sworn in place, linking pinkies like the daisy chains she used to make.

what had she become? corrupted by the devilish man that stalked her nightmares. that's what. and even though she knew that they weren't good for each other and there were a million things that had already gone wrong, she still needed him. craving every minute of his undivided attention, something she craved for so long but never received. remembering his touch, poisonous and addictive, soft but a little cold at the same time like a first winter snow. she was intoxicated by him. hypnotised by his presence. like she was out into the deepest trance by a swinging pocket watch and was waiting for someone to clap their hands and bring her out of it. shivering at the thought. fatigue began to wash over her as she worried on. serene setting only adding to the warmth that crept inside of her but slowly dissipating seconds later. she closed her eyes, listening to her surroundings. she let the bird now sing to her and listened to the waves crash in lieu of percussion. being rocked into an unavoidable torpor by the dock she laid prostate on. but quickly returned to her original position as her dark thoughts overtook her mind once again.

whispering to herself "shut up, shut up, shut up." the world went quiet. blank. hiden in the abyss of evil darkness that now plagued the once formidable girl. salty streams poured out of her inky black irises as she nimbly weaved her boney hands through her burnt amber hair pulling at chunks as a stoic expression diminished her haggard manor. the world was finally caving in - much like she wanted - as she finally stood. slumping her arms into her pockets feeling the sharpness of the clattering rocks, a feeling long ago she would've despised and felt sickened by. but now, finding peace and serenity in the feeling, finally being able to escape. taking one last peek at the bird that sat to her right, she realised it had changed. it's once smokey black feathers now a bright white edging her in even more to go. her soul shattering into a million pieces as one last tear fell from her face. deep mauve gushing out of her hands as she removed them from her pockets. muttering "i'll see you soon my love" as her back turned to the water, promptly shuffling her heals back towards the edge of the dock. breathing in the icy air that surrounded her, she lifted her meek arms to her side, counting down "three..." her eyes squinting shut ready to brace for impact "two..."the stones huddling together in her pockets ready to weigh her down "on-" "WAIT!" a desperate roar erupted from the poison that was now running towards her. her love. but he was too late. he had now lost her forever, like she once lost him. and just as things were getting complicated in the eye of the storm, he couldn't bring himself to flick the red hot revelation of the tip of his tongue. he knew all along he had to let her go, even if it killed her in the place she loved most.
