My name is Star, I was of 16 years of age and doing my matric. I thought i was the only child at my home, black parents and I lived in one of the smallest countries in Africa, but this one is found inside South Africa and its called Lesotho (The kingdom in the sky). Well growing up I have always looked different from other people, like here was no one of my kind but I never felt like that. I had my six friends that I met at school, they were my other family. It was Gift, Kat, Lerato, Faith, Noma and Makhi. We were all doing our matric. One day we decided to go out to celebrate after writing our matric, we needed the fresh air. So we decided to visit a certain place, tour a little to a different place.
'Be careful, don't stay out late in the forests.' That's what my mom said to me before I left the house, she was getting ready to leave for work with my dad. 'Bye, dad.' I gave my dad a hug, and I left.
Kat's brother was taking us there, the place is called Mafeteng, Thaba-Morena. It's one of the rural areas, it has got beautiful mountains and trees and to interact with nature was what we wanted. As we reached the place, I could smell the fresh air already as I climbed off the car, the birds we're literally chiding like they're saying to me. 'You're free.'
'Let's grab some lunch before we head to the mountain, we're gonna need all the energy.' Lerato insisted, and she definitely had a point. 'Yeah, we should look for a nice chilling spot in the forest. ' Faith added, and I was nodding at everything they said.
We took our lunch bags and went in the forest and looked for a place to sit, when we finally found one we sat our buttocks on the bricks and sighed out loudly all together. We had left Kat's brother in the car, he surely doesn't enjoy our company as much as our parents think he does by driving us here. But within seconds, huge, muscular guys showed up in their army suits and surrounded us and we stood up immediately.
'Um, guys. What's happening?' I asked, but everyone was starting to look scared at the moment.
As the guys kept on coming closer, we kept on coming closer to one another, until it showed up this guy who was in a knight suit. Kill me, Lord. Who still wears this? I said in my mind as I felt like if that wasn't the situation, I would've probably cracked it as a joke to my friends. But wait, what are these men doing here. They look abnormal, I've never seen their kind before. Like, Americans. I have to be dreaming.
The guy in a knight suit approached us, his face hidden, i could barely see a mere skin, and I saw him raise a single finger and each of the other uncovered men approached one of us, I tried running but I found myself caught before I could even take five steps and I was drugged.
I woke up with my hands tied, feet and my mouth covered with a tape. I looked around to see my friends by my side but Kat and Lerato were not there, and the rest of us were tied. I tried murmuring some words but it was useless, they looked like they had been crying. But as I looked clearly around, I found the place not unknown to me, it looked like my aunt's house. But surely my eyes had to be deceiving me. As I was still shocked, one of the men walked in and they took Makhi and Gift.
'No!' Was the word I wanted barely out of my mouth, but only tears managed to escape. They took them away, to where? I didn't know yet. After a few seconds they went out I saw an opportunity, the rope was loose since they untied Gift and Makhi and I thought it was either then or never. I stood up slightly and helped Noma and Faith to stand up. But before I could go any further, the door widely opened behind me.
'Where do you think you're going?' The voice asked, and I froze as I slowly turned my head to find one of the men, certainly I'd call them guards, looking at me.
And he approached and started pulling me to the door and towards the passage and he entered a room and threw me on the empty single bed covered in white sheets then, Faith and Noma followed. And they tied us together yet again, and another tape on top of the old one. My eyes shone around the room we were in, it was really my aunt's house but where was everyone? Did they kill them? I wondered.
