Without Me Chapter Six

______

Screaming. One minute his mouth won't seem to close, the corners of his lips stretching at how wide his mouth is opened. To him, it's as though his words are soundless, he can't hear himself through the pounding in his chest and the fear that's overtaken him.

To everyone else, their perspective must be different. Because to anyone else Chris is anything but soundless, he's loud. He's crying out so loudly that he's forgotten to even hear or process what's spilling from his mouth. It's hard to miss how guttural and throaty-sounding it all is though.

It's unusual not being able to even fully understand what words are spilling from your own mouth. And yet he doesn't care, doesn't care what he is trying to say. He knows it has something to do with demanding that Nick come upstairs and help. That Nick come and help their bleeding and broken brother.

But the rest of what he's saying? That's different, that's all unknown to him. That's the funny thing is that he can't seem to make out anything going on. If anything, Chris is feeling so much at once that he feels nothing at all. It's strange, unexplainable.

He's never felt anything like this before, has never felt this torn over anything before. Nothing has ever even come close to having him feeling the way he does now.

And this feeling, It's not anything that he can hope to decipher or understand. He can't understand much of anything over the pounding in his head and his own deafening sobs as he pulls Matt closer. He's always pulling Matthew closer, he doesn't want this to be the last time he has a chance too.

The thought has his breath hitching, his throat feels unforgivingly tight as his sobs and tears cut through it like razors. It doesn't change anything, Matt still doesn't stir.

He's feeling so much yet enveloped in nothing, just the sound of his own voice and the feel of Matt's form as he holds it against his own. He needs to be touching Matt just so he knows it's real, that his brother's still hanging on. Then it erupts, that nothingness fades. Erupting into the sound of rough footsteps thudding up the stairs.

They screech to a halt right in the doorway, footsteps stopping entirely with Nick breathlessly standing there. Nick's attention is downcast and Chris has a guess by the lack of more of a reaction that his brother hasn't yet seen what's going on.

''What the hell Chris? What's with the screaming, what is it. I need you to tell me what's going on,''

Gritting his teeth as tears flood down his face Chris speaks back, his concern and terror being misguided into frustration.

''Nick, If you don't shut up and come over here right now then I'm going to knock your fucking teeth in,''

Nick doesn't instantly react to the threat, knowing not to take it to heart especially once seeing the despair on the youngest's face. Chris, who had kept his back to his eldest brother finally veers around to look right at the eldest,

''Matt,'' Chris chokes out in an attempt at formulating half an explanation. ''It's him, Matt needs you,''

Nick's heart now resting in the boy's throat Nicolas finally comes forward, getting a glimpse of the scene before the triplet. Chris's brother makes a sound of complete and total horror.

It's only wasting more time. Time that they don't have.

''Are you even listening? Matt needs you! Come over here and do something. Help him, I don't fucking know. Please, do something because I can't - I don't know what to do,''
