Rehan

I'd been married for six years now, five of which were spent being a parent. Ma Sha Allah and Alhumdulillah.

So now, walking into an empty and quiet home was not something that I was used to. There was no giggling and excited chatter of five-year-olds Haya and Hoor. There was no 'roaring' of two-year-old Rohaan, who was pretending to be a dinosaur. There was no squealing and shrieking of one-year-old Arsal as he attempted to run after his brother on his wobbly footsteps.

There was just a post-it note on my bedside table. In Anabia's writing were the words:

I've left already for a long weekend at Saim's with the kids. You still have the offer to join us. Otherwise enjoy your time off! :)

-Yours, Anya.

And underneath, in childish handwriting that I recognised as Hoor's were the names of our children: 'Hoor, Haya, Arsan and Roan'.

It made me chuckle, seeing Hoor's way of spelling the names of my sons.

I adored my family, but who would give up the idea of spending a long weekend at home alone? The top of my list of priority was sleep. Every morning, we were woken up really early by Arsalan, who decided that it was the best time of the day to play. And when Anya brought him to our bed because she enjoyed the early morning cuddles with him, he always ended up slapping his saliva-covered hands on my face. And after that, there was no more sleep for me.

The next on my list would be to just lounge around on the sofa, watching sports, or reading a book. Currently, I was normally reading princess stories to my daughters, rather than books of my own interest.

I wasn't complaining about anything, though. My kids were my whole world, and the liveliness of my home.

But I was not giving up on the idea of a long weekend just lazing around at home.

No. Frickin'. Way.

After a nice shower, I sat in front of the TV, sipping coffee and chewing on some mixed nuts. It was barely ten minutes since I settled in when I grabbed my phone.

<Rehan: If the twins need help with their homework, let me know. You have too much to deal with already. I'll come by and help them.>

Anya replied almost instantly.
