Eiran struggled to get through the small window, considering he was rushing. He finally pulled himself into the ground above, blinded for a second by the sudden light.
"Come on, we have to go quickly!" She pulled Eiran away quickly by his forearm. "They saw you, and once they let the other guards know you've escaped, we'll never get out of here." She didn't stop walking.
They finally reached a wagon outside of the castle's barn. She quickly let go of Eiran and ran to the back, taking out a saddle pack. "You'll hind back here behind these boxes. Don't make a noise when we pass through the gates, got it?" She glared daggers at him.
"O-Okay... Hey, I never asked. What's your name?" She looked back at him for a minute. "Lola. You?" She asked, jumping onto her horse. "Eiran, Eiran Amos." He quickly scrambled to the back of the wagon, hiding behind a stack of boxes filled with all kinds of foods and other supplies.
"Well, Eiran, you ready to go?" She yelled at him from the horse. "Yes." He answered and the wagon started moving.
The wagon stopped for a second and light was let into the back of it, shining in Eiran's face.
He could just barely see the face of an aged man peeking through the boxes but he didn't seem to notice Eiran. He walked away, closing the sheet back over the wagon and saying something to Lola. It was muffled but he assumed it was a joke because they both laughed and the wagon started again.
They didn't stop for a few more hours after that, and eventually Eiran drifted off, having no idea where this completely random stranger was taking him.
Eiran awoke again with light filling his eyes and a sore neck from sleeping on wood all night. "You finally up?" He heard a voice come from outside.
Lola. She pulled the curtain back, letting the entirety of the morning sun into his eyes. He sat up to look at her to find two people staring back at him.
Eiran finally asked after looking in-between the two, "Who the heck is this guy?" He questioned. The boy looked slightly older than him with dirty blonde hair that fell to his shoulders and beautiful gray eyes.
"I'm Felix. Nice to meet you too."He said, holding out his hand, with a voice of honey. Without thinking, Eiran reached out and took his. The boy helped him up and out of the carriage. "So, how do you two know each other."Eiran finally snapped back to reality.
"Well-"The boy called Felix started but Lola quickly chimed in. "We don't. Found this one trying to steal supplies. I gave him new clothes and some food."Lola gave him a scowl. Felix looked at her then back at Eiran and smiled. "You gotta do what you gotta do to survive, you know?"He asked.
"Ya."Eiran responded. He knew all too well how it felt to have to make ends meet with little to nothing. He also knew not many people were willing to hire everyone.
On resume's, you have to put what element of power you had. Eiran had always put fire, since technically, he's not lying and it is his primary element. If some places found out you had a sub-subdivision like wood, or Spirit, they wouldn't hire you even though it didn't matter much anymore. Even some places with higher ratings only hired people with primary elements like Water, Fire, Soul, Air, or Earth.
That didn't stop Eiran from being so bad at everything that he got fired anyways. He was wondering so why not ask? "What element power do you have?"He asked Felix. His face fell and he looked away. "None."He whispered. "What do you mean?"Eiran questioned again. "I don't have any powers. None. I'm a nomadge."He lifted his head up again.
Their eyes met, Felix's and Eiran's. Eiran didn't see much aside from complete and utter pain. How could eyes so deep and full of life look so tired at the same time? People treated nomadges like the scum of the earth. Almost no one would hire them except for nomadge businesses and people who made them work as slaves, like the old ages.
One time, Eiran was working at a high society restaurant, working as a server and the owner had a slave, a nomadge. He walked into the kitchen to get an order and saw the owner beating the nomadge violently, for no reason. Her screams still haunted him to this day because he didn't do anything. He stood and watched, hands shaking, and he eventually dropped the tray of used bowls, breaking them. That sick man looked at Eiran and said, "You want a turn? Nice to practice fighting. You'll need it if you keep that sharp mouth of yours with the customers." He walked out and left Eiran with the shaking girl. That was the only job Eiran ever willingly quit from.
"I'm so sorry. Do you have a family? Are they Okay?"Eiran asked frantically, which seemed to surprise Felix. "Ye-Yes. I have a family. My father and my little sister. Well, not so little anymore. She's 16 but she'll always be my baby sister."His face lit up talking about his family, and Eiran could have sworn he caught a glimpse of jealousy from Lola's face.
"They are living in a small cabin in these woods. Usually, we grow our own food and get our water from the small lake not too far away, but it's getting colder and our ground is becoming infertile."He didn't look down like he was embarrassed this time. Instead, he looked straight ahead, like he could take on the world regardless.
There was a certain spark to him that both Eiran and Lola quickly picked up on but they couldn't quite place it. Maybe they felt bad for him, or maybe he was just a people person. Who knows. "If you want, you could stay with me and my family. I'm sure we'd be of good help to you just please don't tell anyone we're here. I can't imagine my dad being a slave, or my baby sister dying on the streets due to starvation. Please, just, please."Felix pleaded with them.
Eiran finally found out what the spark was. Out of that whole rant about not turning them in, he didn't once mention himself. That's why he came out here and not his dad or sister. He cared for his family too much to see them get in trouble, especially for simply existing.
He placed a hand on Felix's shoulder, looking him in the eye. "Why would we do that? We're not monsters. Besides, we're fugitives too."Felix looked confused, but eventually, he answered. "Wait, how are you two fugitives?"He tilted his head to the side like a confused puppy which was admittedly, very cute.
Lola quickly explained everything to Felix, as he listened with wide eyes. Felix had lots and lots of questions, specifically about Eiran and his powers. "Wait, so your, what, a god?"He questioned. "No, I don't exactly know what I am or why I have so many powers."Eiran responded.
Lola gave him a look that Eiran couldn't really pinpoint. He then noticed Felix saw it too. "What? What do you know?"Eiran looked at her. "Eiran,-"He looked at her in complete and utter shock. "Lola, you know. What do you know? Why didn't you tell me? Tell me. Lola please, tell me." He begged.
"Let's get to Felix's house first. Please. I don't want to say anything out in the open."She looked genuinely terrified to say anything aloud right now. "Fine. But as soon as we get there-"Eiran warned. "I know. I'll tell you everything. I promise." She turned and started packing things back into the wagon, not saying another word to Eiran or Felix.
Eiran was then left with his feelings. He didn't even know how to feel. He had barely known Lola for a day, yet it seemed like years, and it felt like genuine betrayal. On the other hand, he was so so happy to finally know why. Why he had his powers. Why he was so different. He would finally know.
