SCENE I. The local Dutch shop.Enter Declan and McKenna, holding hands.
DECLAN
pray, often dost thee come here?
McKenna
Not hither often, yet I do come on the occasion. Since leaving my family, I often crave the flavors of mine heritage. But I have not means to bring me here, nor the courage to come alone.
DECLAN
Well perhaps arrangements could be made to allow you, for I have a car.
McKenna
I apricate that sentiment. How often hither do you come?
DECLAN
Often my family comes here without me, so while I need not the products on the shelves, I am empty of the experience. I very much enjoy thus the experience of arriving with you.
Perhaps, I can order us something for lunch. Can you be interested in a Saucijzenbroodje (Dutch sausage roll)? And what beverage is to your liking?
McKenna
Please, I am your most gracious guest. What you decide is wonderful.
DECLAN
Then it shall be so. Good sir, I would like to place an order!
Enter Evan
Evan
Yes sir, how best I serve?
Declan
I'd like two of your fine saucijzenbroodjes with two lattes with extra foam.
Evan
Seat yourselves and whence thy food is warmed and coffees closed, I shall find ye.
McKenna
Allow me to decide on our dining space. Shall we sit in that room over yonder?
Declan and McKenna sit at a table near the backdrop.
Evan walks behind the counter.
Enter Maria who is quickly followed by Steve.
Maria
Now, where did those two birds fly? I knowst my best friend by her shampoo, but amidst these wintery decor I seest not her nor he.
Steve
Maria.
Maria
I cannot believe we have lost them. This shop cannot be so large as to lose two people. How are we to watch their court if our search is in vain?
Steve
Maria,
Maria
Perhaps we should go back to Billy and tell him we could not find what we were looking for. We didst instruct him to remain in the carriage. Oh, let him never know why we came.
Steve
I believe, Maria, that those you are searching for are fairing in the dining room to the left. From this tree, there is a perfect view of them.
Maria
Steve, you are a genius! How could I not think of this myself? Let us stand here behind this tree so that we see but remain unseen.
