Today it was time to get a check up on the baby. It's been a good five or six months and I could have been happier. Michael had the chance to meet my best friends and they actually learned to like him for me.
Michael decides that he wanted to join me just to see what the baby looked like inside my stomach since he had never seen it happen before. We drove the twenty minute drive and Michael kept smiling. "What's up? Michael?" I said as he looked at me. "Do we really get a chance to see what the baby look like?" He asked.
"Yes we do.. and we can see if it's a boy or a girl." I said and he clapped his hands. It was totally cute how he reacted to things. "I don't see this everyday and yet, I get to see it for the first time." He said. "You don't have a way to see the babies on your planet? How do you know if it would be a boy or a girl?" I asked. '
He shrugs, "I heard that they don't know until it comes out. The technology on my planet is very different here. Its like it has an expansion from everything that I ever known. Your friends are nice though." He said.
"Yes, they have been good people. But that's weird, so do they wait until they have birthed them to name them?" I asked.
"Yes," he breathed, "Like my mother said that she had to do the same, but she could always tell what she was having. Well, she could look in the mirror and tell after the months passed. And she came out correct, five boys and three girls." He said.
I nearly almost slammed on the breaks and the car jerked as I slowed down. Michael's head snapped a little bit as I felt his worry stare at me. "My bad, there's eight of you guys?" I asked.
"Yes why?" he said almost sounding like he is offended. "You are just the first person I met who has seven siblings. Its just me, so I don't have any siblings." I said as I looked at him and then back to the road. As a relieved look fell over his face.
As we entered the building, my name was called as we walked into the doctor's office and Michael looked around the room. The little baby diagrams were plastered everywhere and pictures of children were on the walls.
"So you look like this one?" He asked pointing to the picture describing the stages of pregnancy. "Yes, I am the one the above that one, you see the baby is this size." I said as he moved his finger up an inch and the size of the baby shocked him.
"Cool beans." He said as he looked at every photograph and every picture that hung up. The doctor finally comes in as Michael sits next to me and grabbed my hand. He whispered, "Is this where you start to push?" He asked as I giggled at his sweetness. "Not yet, you will know when it's time but its too soon." I said.
"Okay Lovelle, how are you doing?" He asked. I looked at him with the happiest smile on my face, "I am very well, here to see what my baby is." I said laughing.
The doctor sits down, "That's great news and is this your boyfriend?" He asked as he looked in Michael's direction. "Hehe, yes he is." I said as I looked at Michael who had a strange look of confusion and then he nodded in agreement. "Yes doctor, I am her boy..friend. Nice to meet you." He said.
"Well, lets get started shall we?" He said.
Omniscient
As the doctor preps Lovelle by having her lift her shirt, revealing her growing baby bump, Michael sits nervously watching in despair. He didn't know what to expect from this. The technology and the view of the world almost made his stomach turn.
The doctor places the jelly on her stomach and moved the mouse-like figure on her stomach, moving across her belly, a figure showed up on the screen as Michael gets excited.
The picture showed the small outline of a figure of a baby. He moved around just a little. "You see that? There's the hands, there's the heart and here's... a girl!" He said as Lovelle laughed and Michael squeezed her hand.
