One day when Lily and John B were out on the boat, having a little too much to drink, Lily fell overboard and started to drown. John B didn't know what to do and he began to panic instead of jumping in. Luckily, Rafe and Topper were passing by and as soon as he knew it was Lily he jumped in to save her. That's how he found out she was living on the cut and on that day, he vowed to save her from that life.
