chapter two — is food really that worth it? the answer is yes.

. . .

"AND WHY WEREN'T YOU IN CLASS, YOUNG LADY?" Principal Lynn said as Niyah leaned back into her seat more. It wasn't often she was in the principal's office, but whenever she was she ended up getting a call home.

Niyah shrugged. "I don't like history? Plus, it's the last class of the day anyway. Nobody goes to eighth period unless they're Jeffrey."

"Language. I don't care if it was eighth period or first period, skipping still isn't allowed."

"So people do cocaine in the school bathrooms and you look the other way, but one person skips and you suddenly care about rules."

Principal Lynn sighs. "At least they try and be secretive about it. You were walking through the halls during a hall sweep, obviously I'm not just gonna ignore that. You're lucky the security guards didn't get to you first. I'll be calling your parents. And even better, you'll be the one to talk to them."

"Isn't it like, your job to do that? Why would I want to speak to my parents about me skipping?" Niyah questioned. She didn't really feel like speaking to her parents about how she was in the principal's office for something as stupid as skipping, especially when she knew what kind of reaction they would have. Maybe if she was lucky, her sister would pick up the phone. Hopefully then she would atleast be able to bribe her with food to stop her from telling their parents.

"That's the point, you're not supposed to want to speak to them. Then if you dread it enough, you'll stop skipping." Principal Lynn explained and Niyah rolled her eyes.

"I think we both know I'm not gonna stop skipping."

"I know. That's why we'll keep calling your parents again, and again, and again, and again until you do. Checkmate bitch."

Niyah furrowed her eyebrows. "Hold on, you're the principal. How is it appropriate for you to call me a bitch?"

Principal Lynn ignored Niyah as she dialed her parents phone number into the phone. She clicked the call button and the phone call was almost instantly answered. "Hello, this is Principal Lynn. Am I speaking to one of the legal guardians of Niyah Kelsey right now?"

Niyah waited, and she didn't really want to admit it but she was anxious. Even if her sister were to pick up the phone, she loved to see her get in trouble. If she tried to bribe her sister with food then she'd probably take it and tell their parents anyway.

Principal Lynn nodded along with whatever was said on the phone before handing it to Niyah. "Your mom's on the phone, speak with her about you skipping. Lie about anything and I'll set up an in-person meeting with both of your parents."
