there was a knock on the wall and when rin turned around, bachira yu was leaning against the doorframe.

"mum!" bachira greeted happily from his place on the bed. rin got up to greet her but she casually waved him off.

"yu-san."

"rin! you're still talking so formally." she grinned that grin that was so similar to bachira's. and rin was both weak to that smile and to her, so he cringed and apologised quietly. yu laughed and patted him on the back. "want to talk a bit with this old lady while meguru gets his check up?"

"you're still young yu-san." yu laughed louder as she ushered him out of the room. rin tried to ignore the people passing him as he waited for yu to speak up again. he felt his heart sinking the longer the silence went on, but whenever he peeked at the older woman she was smiling, albeit smaller and more subdued than before.

"the doctors say we only have a month left." rin's heart dropped to his stomach. the silence that followed was heartbreaking and rin couldn't find the strength to say anything so he just nods and stares down at his shoes.

"i'm sorry rin. i'm so sorry to you both."
