"Addy, can you hurry?" Max murmured, as his gaze was fixed on the road through the windshield.
He needed to get to Holly as soon as possible—and truthfully, the backseat felt a little crowded and uncomfortable, resembling a can of sardines with three people squeezed into the small space of a Mini—him, Hazel, and Pierre.
"Well, I'm trying not to get you and us killed, you idiot," Addy responded, giving Max a death stare in the rear mirror.
"You're doing amazing, ma chérie," Charles shook his head, observing Addy's hands on the steering wheel and the gear shift. "I know this is your first time driving in snow. Keep looking at the road, just like we practiced in normal conditions," he said, and Addy nodded with a deep breath.
When Addy finally made it to the village (and managed to keep everyone inside the vehicle alive), she looked into her rear mirror. "Well, what's your plan?"
"We'll knock at every single door in this village if we have to," Max responded with determination in his voice. "You guys will stay in the car. I'll deal with people," Max nodded, rubbing his hands against his thighs.
"You're like Hugh Grant in Love Actually," Hazel clapped her hands in excitement, only to be met with Max's lifted eyebrows. "Oh my god, you haven't seen Love Actually?"
"Why the hell am I even friends with you?" Pierre shot Max a furrowed look.
Max rolled his eyes in annoyance. "I'll watch it, okay?"
"Of course you will. With Holly," Charles remarked, handing Max a box containing something Max had picked up earlier. "Let's go find her."
As Max continued to ring multiple doorbells in his quest to find Holly, he encountered a mix of reactions. Some people were angry that some dude interrupted them on Christmas Eve, while others recognized him and screamed. And because Max wasn't rude, and it was Christmas after all, he didn't mind taking pictures with them.
Max watched his breath turn to steam in the freezing air as he rang another doorbell, doubting his chances of success. An old man opened the door, and Max had a speech prepared.
"Good evening, sir. I'm sorry for bothering you, but please, do you know Holly Everly Lee? She lives in this village. She is really petite, and she has dark eyes and dimples on her cheeks when she smiles," Max started describing Holly. "She's very kind and sweet. And I know this sounds crazy, but we met today, and I simply know I need to get to know her. I think she might be the one," he added. When the old man didn't respond, Max wanted to share more information about her, but to his surprise, the old man smiled.
"Of course I know her."

Holly let out a sigh while settling down on the floor beside the big tree she had just decorated. The entire house sparkled with festive decorations and lights. Although Love Actually played on the TV, she couldn't even bring herself to pay attention.
