"Hey, thanks for coming over to watch her, I haven't had much one on one time with him to be honest"
"Glad I offered then, are you leaving now?" She motioned to the keys in his hand.
"Yeah, I don't want to be late, I only have a couple hours with him, let me just find Abby first- sorry, come in," he stepped out of the way.

Vanessa stood in the living room while Mike had a quick look around the house just to confirm that she was in her room.

"Wait here just a sec"

He ran over to Abby's room, pushing open her door, she sat at her usual spot behind her desk, most likely drawing something related to Freddy's.

"So Vanessa's here"
"Okay," she continued to draw.
"And..I'm gonna get going"

Abby set down her crayon, getting up from her chair to hug him.

"Pet Smudge for me"
"I will, and I should be back in time for dinner, so around five or six, I love you"
"I love you too Mike, have fun with Ness"
"Oh I'm sure I will"

Mike read the address he'd written on his hand for the hundredth time, making sure it matched the one he was currently standing in front of, going number by number, not wanting to embarrass himself by accidentally knocking on the wrong door..luckily for him, he was stood in front of the right apartment.

He took a few deep breaths to calm his nerves, before knocking on the door.

"Would you look at that, Mike Schmidt, at my door, on the dot, nice purple hoodie man," he leaned against the door frame.
"Uh, thanks, I wasn't sure on it at first, but every time I see you outside of Sparky's you're wearing something really colorful, this is pretty much all I have," he put his hands in his pockets, the hoodie was a nice deep purple, so it wasn't that big of a change, but Ness still thought it looked nice.
"Well it looks like purple's your color..why don't you come on in, I can see your breath, you must be freezing"

Sure Ness' place is small, but he actually made an effort to decorate it, Mike felt this sense of security as soon as he stepped inside, he didn't feel that when he went into his own place, he only felt that when he was with Abby.

Just by having a quick look around, he could see that Ness was a big fan of literature, as well as video games, movies, patterns, trinkets, and odd looking lamps.

"It's very you"
"Is that good or bad?"
"It's good, I like it, I didn't know you read books"
"It's what I do in my spare time, do you read?"
"Oh, yeah, not as much as I'd like, but I do..what's that scratching noise?" Ness' eyes widened.
"SHIT!"

Ness ran down a small hallway, opening what Mike assumed to be his room, out came a fluffy gray and white cat.

"I'm so sorry buddy, I didn't mean to lock you in there," Ness picked up the cat, using a higher pitched voice when talking to him, kissing the top of his head.
"So this is the Smudge?"
"Oh yes, say hi to Mike, mudgy," he held him out in front of Mike, Smudge reached his paws out towards him.
"He wants to get on your shoulders, are you okay with that?"
"Uh, sure," he stepped closer, allowing Smudge to climb onto his shoulder.
"He's a little heavy," Mike hunched over, he quickly learned that this was a mistake, Smudge went ahead and loafed on his back, purring loudly and closing his eyes.
"Well..the good news is, he likes you"
"And the bad news?"
"He's sleeping on your back"
"Already? I thought cats took awhile to warm up to you"
"Smudge is unpredictable"
"So..how long should I stay like this?"
"Until his nap is finished"
"I guess I'll accept my fate then"
"I'm just messing with you, I'm gonna move him to the couch"
"Oh thank god."

~

Mike and Ness sat on the couch, Smudge in between them, they'd just finished watching The Truman Show, Ness freaked out when he found out he hadn't seen it before, demanding that they watch it immediately.
