Delilah sat at the bar eating some chocolate chip cookies and scrolling through tiktok.
Laurel walked in.
"hey mom. Delilah said.,, looking back down at her phone.
"jesus!!. what are you doing?" Laurel asked her eldest daughter.
"eating cookies?" Delilah said.,, offering her mom some.
Laurel gladly look the offer and helped herself to the plate of cookies infront of them.
"where were you?" Delilah smiled.
"oh.. I just went for a drive."Laurel replied.,, getting each of them a Glass of milk.
"are you going to yell?" Delilah asked her mother.
"do you want me to?" Laurel replied.,, setting delilahs glass down Infront of her and taking a drink from her own.
"no.." Delilah laughed.
"I'm sorry today didn't go as planned."
"it's okay D. not everything has to be the same every year."
"yea.. but still" Delilah sighed..
"Bellys very mad at me."
"why?"
"she found something out.."
"that you lost your virginity to Conrad?" Laurel asked.
Delilah was shocked.
"what- how did you know??" she asked her mother.
"I'm your mother.,, I know everything" laurel smiled.,, taking a drink of her milk.
"you're not mad..?" Delilah asked.,, she expected a lecture.
"I mean.. I'm not too happy.. but I'd rather it be Conrad than anyone else."
"true.." Delilah took a bite of her cookie.
"is that why things between you guys have been weird this summer?" Laurel asked.
"somewhat."
"oh?" Laurel questioned.
"so.. last summer- after it happened. Nicole threatened me. she told me if I didn't stop talking to Conrad she'd tell Aubrey and everybody else that we hooked up. and I didn't want to cause anymore problems for conrad."
"yeah.. I understand- but did you see how badly that effected him? he stopped talking to everyone. sleeping late- and he even broke up with aubrey.."
"I know mom.. but I didn't know what else to do."
"did you tell him this?"
"no.. he doesn't know.. and things between us have been kind of weird.. like one minute he likes me.. then the next he doesn't talk to me for days- and it's like we're together- but we aren't"
"you should tell him about it.. I'm sure he'll understand. Conrad loves you Delilah.
"okayyy. I'll tell him tonight!!. thanks mama" Delilah smiled at her mom.
"love you d."
"love you too mom."

Delilah ran outside and saw fire works going off in the dark blue sky.
she also saw jeremiah.,, who was staring off at something holding a firework. she walked up to him to see what he was staring at.
when she got closer. She saw Conrad and belly, about to kiss.
"light it." Delilah said.,,, as her eyes filled with tears. Jeremiah did exactly that. wrapping his arm around his bestfriend.
"I'm sorry del.."
"it's whatever-" the tears fell from Delilah's eyes and ran down her face.
at that moment. her mind was blank. except for the thought of conrad and belly. She never would have thought Conrad would do that. and belly?
maybe they were just drunk..
maybe it didn't mean anything..
the forth of July had always been Delilah's favorite. but she was starting to second guess it.
