Leo Vasques has just finished unpacking his things for his new room. You see, Leo just moved here to Port Mira in the Alfana region all the way from Heahea City on Akala Island in the Alola region.

The only things that are good so far is that he was gifted a rotom dex for his birthday a week before moving, and that his mother said that once they got unpacked he could choose a pokemon of his own.

"Leo! Could you get the door, please?"
"Alright, one second!" He shouted downstairs to his mother.

Leo opened the door to the smiling face of a girl with a plate of cookies. She had ginger hair and was wearing a light blue dress. He didn't take much of this in, however, due to immediately being bombarded with questions.

"Alola! I'm Leah, I'm your new neighbour! It's nice to meet you. What's your name? What's your favourite pokemon? How old are you? Do you have any pokemon? Where are you from? Oh nevermind my mom told me you're from alola. You already knew that I knew cause I said alola, haha!"

"Slow down!" Exclamed Leo
"Oops, sorry, I tend to get a little too excited about stuff." Leah replied.

Leo crossed his arms defensively, leaning against the door frame.
"Well, to answer your questions, my name is Leo Vasques,  I don't have a favourite pokemon, I just turned eleven, and I don't own any pokemon.

He hoped she wouldn't look down on him for not having any pokemon yet. It wasn't his fault. His parents were too busy with the divorce, and then his mom was too busy preparing to move to another region.

"Hey, that's cool, I'm eleven, and I don't have a pokemon yet either. Yknow a lot of people expect me to be an amazing trainer just because my mom is the professor and my dad runs a gym, but I've just never clicked with any pokemon in particular before."

"Wait, your mom is the professor?" Although Leo was relieved not to be judged for his lack of pokemon, he was currently more preoccupied by the thought of getting a pokemon from Leah"s mom.

"Yep, the esteemed professor, Briar Linden." Leah replied with a playful kind of sarcasm in her voice. "Why do you ask?"

Leo's arms dropped to his sides with one hand raised up on this chest. " My mom said that I could get a pokemon from the professor once I finished unpacking my  room." He confidently replied. "And I happen to have just finished."

"Oh really! That's awesome. I've seen a lot of trainers get their first pokemon from mom. She should be at the docks. She's picking up my cousin to stay for the summer."

"Great, I'll go ask my mom if we if I can go meet her to get my pokemon."

"No need to tell me, I've been listening for a few minutes now, nice to meet you Leah, also I'll take those cookies, they look great."

"Nice to meet you to miss Vasques! And thanks, I made them myself."

"Come on then, Leo! Let's head down to the docks, If we're quick, we won't miss mom leaving to do research."
Leah grabs his hand and starts to run to the docks, dragging Leo with her.

As they reach the docks, they see several small fishing boats leaving for the day and a large ship pulling in and starting to let people of. "That's the boat that my cousin's on."

"Leah! What are you doing here already?" A short middle-aged lady was walking over to them. She had faded ginger hair and was wearing a long lab coat. This must be Leahs mom, professor Linden.

"Hi mom, this is Leo. He's our new neighbour, he wants to get a pokemon."

"Nice to meet you, professor." Leo said confidently. He was quite excited to meet the pokemon he could choose from.

"Lovely to meet you to Leo. Once I grab Wren, we can head to my lab and get you a pokemon of your own." She replied with a friendly smile.

"Auntie Briar!"Hello Wren, it's so good to see you, oh and little eevee, it's lovely to see you too." An eevee had run up to the professor and was nuzzling her leg.
Not far behind the eevee was the person that shouted to them.

"That's Wren, they're my cousin, and that's their eevee."

"Hey Leah, good to see you again. Who's your friend?"

"My name is Leo, I just moved in next door." Leo replied

Suddenly, Leo saw a bright light at his side, a machoke appeared next to Professor Linden.

" Machoke, could you please take Wren's bags home." Professor Linden asked.
"Machoke!"

Once machoke left with the bags, the three kids followed Brair to the lab. It was a large building with a huge glass dome at the back. It kind of looked like a snow globe.

They followed Mrs Linden into the glass dome attached to the building.

"This is the bio-dome. As you can see it has several different biomes for the pokemon that we study to explore and live in." The professor explained.

"Now Leo, there are three pokemon that have just come to me, and although most pokemon I study are perfectly happy living at the lab, these three want to explore the region. I think any one of them would be perfect for you."

Three pokemon had walked over to them while the professor was explaining.

"Ah, here they all are, Leo. I would like you to meet Aquaphant, Charcub, and Seedmouse. Who would you like to bring with you on your journey?"

Who would you like to bring with you on your journey?"
