Entry 6: Dragons for Two

The whole school was in a frenzy, only three of the original sixteen remained for the TriWizard Tournament. I was one of those three, and I couldn't believe it.

I walked through the portrait hole and saw Cara, Midnight, Joey, and Lillianna all talking about somehting. I walked over to them, but as soon as I was within hearing distance, they all stopped abruptly.

I gave them all looks of confusion. “We you all talking about me?” I asked them, still giving them the confused look.

There was a chorus of 'yes's' and 'no's'. They all looked at one another, glaring between each other.

“I should just stop asking right?”

It was a yes from all of them. I sat down, still looking at them, Joey with her fake innocent face wasn't fooling anybody. Especially not me, who knew her best.

They started talking again, but they seemed to be being very careful about what they said.

“Yeah I can't wait to see the next challenge it sounds so-”

“You know the next challenge?!” I screamed at Joey, jumping out of my seat and looking at her with excitement.

“Um, no?” She said, giving a false smile again.

“Joey, please you have to tell me something. I can't stand not knowing anything while everyone seems to know about it.”

They all gave me faces of pity. “You're not going to tell me are you?” They all shook their heads.

“Fine, I'm going to bed.” I said, and I walked up the stairs to my room that I shared with the others my year that were girls.

I lay down and pulled the scarlet covers over my head. Why did everyone know about this challenge but me?

This was so frustrating. I was in the final three and if I could make it past this round, I would duke it out for the TriWizard Cup. I could be the Champion.

Thinking about this, I fell asleep, dreaming about the next challenge.

* * *

We were down at breakfast the next morning, when the post came in. Usually I didn't get anything, considering my parents didn't really care for me since I had received my letter to Hogwarts.

Which is why my owl landed in front of me, my mouth fell open in shock. I set my juice down and picked up the package. It was round, and kind of heavy.

I shook it, but it didn't make a single noise. I tore off the brown paper surrounding at and found myself staring at a golden egg. There was a latch at the top, where I could open it from.

I put my hand on it, only to have Lillianna clamp her hand over mine.

“Not here!” She told me in a whisper, and I stuffed it in my pack, planning to take it up to the common room. I stood up, and walked out of the Great Hall, leaving the others sitting at the breakfast table.

I was about half-way to the common room, when I heard two Head Students talking.

“So we meet them at the edge of the grounds to help with the dragons? How many are there?”

“Six. Two for each of the Champions. Those girls are in for a challenge, these dragons are mean.”

My eyes widened in shock. Two dragons? Two?! That was insane, they really were trying to kill us.

They walked passed me and I pressed myself against the wall, hoping they wouldn't see me. I went up to the common room, after telling the Fat Lady the password and climbing through the portrait hole.
