I'm an adventurous soul on a mission to explore all 63 national parks. My passion lies in crafting short stories and sharing personal photographs that capture the essence of these remarkable journeys. Through my words and images, I strive to convey...
Roadtrippers.com was the resource that helped me plan my epic adventure: the Fab 'Four'ty road trip, my quest to conquer 50 states in my 40 years of existence! If you haven't heard of it, Roadtrippers is this awesome site that helps plan road trips, detailing miles, gas cost, travel time, you name it.
My mom and I flew into Ohio and our mission was to drive through ten states, also known as the 'fly over states', we uncovered hidden gems, foodie stops, and of course some National Parks sites. Park #23, Hot Springs National Park, the 2nd smallest park in the Natural State.
Hot Springs, Arkansas, nestled in the Ouachita Mountains, totally took me by surprise– a secret spa paradise!
Bathhouse Row is a lineup of historic buildings, housing vintage-style bathhouses constructed between 1892 and 1923. Stepping inside these time capsules feels like traveling back in time, witnessing people basking in the mineral-rich hot waters known for their healing properties.
Among these historic gems, Quapaw and Buckstaff Bathhouses stand out. Quapaw, blending modern spa luxuries with history, offers massages, facials, and thermal pools, fusing contemporary relaxation with traditional healing customs.
Meanwhile, Buckstaff Bathhouse preserves the classic bathing rituals, showcasing communal baths and the immersion in the natural thermal waters, renowned for their therapeutic benefits for over a century.
Named after local Native American tribes, both Quapaw and Buckstaff continue the legacy of Hot Springs' healing waters. They invite visitors to unwind, explore history, and rejuvenate while embracing the area's rich cultural heritage.
After a relaxing spa session, my mom and I went to Superior Bathhouse Brewery. It's the first brewery in a U.S. National Park and the first to use thermal spring water in brewing, it was a refreshing addition to the experience. Right across the street we dined at The Ohio Club, Arkansas' oldest bar, steeped in gangster history. It's drawn major league ball players and iconic musicians over the years.
Just a short drive from the hot springs, we took a peaceful walk through the tranquil gardens at Garvan Woodland Gardens. Amongst the trees stands Anthony's Chapel—an architectural gem. If I'd known earlier, it'd be my dream wedding venue. This chapel is absolutely beautiful and captures nature's elements perfectly.
Taking home spa souvenirs like bath salts and soaps allowed me to recreate that serene experience at home. Hot Springs National Park truly surprised and delighted me! Excited for more discoveries in this area in the future.
