.~after few hours~
I opened my eyes to find someone holding my hands tightly, feeling drops of water falling on them. I turned and saw three doctors staring at me, Julian over me with tears streaming down his face. He looked as cute as ever, but confusion flooded my mind. Why was he crying? And why was I here? A thousand questions raced through my head until one of the doctors said, "She's awake," and Julian looked up at me.
He stepped aside as the doctors examined me. One of them said calmly, "Ma'am, you needn't worry. You were in an accident." The others muttered phrases like, "It's a medical miracle" and "My God, unbelievable." Then it hit me—I remembered why I was here, with three doctors standing over me.
I tried to sit up but couldn't muster the strength; even moving my fingers seemed exhausting. Memories flooded back—Julian's reckless behavior, confiding in Lisa, the accident on the way back. Anger surged within me. "No," I shouted at the nurse, "Where's Cassandra? Where's Lisa? I'm fine! Where is my daughter?"
A nurse hurried out and soon Lisa entered with Cassandra. I asked for Cassandra, but the doctor intervened, "Ma'am, you're too weak right now. In fact, it's a miracle you're alive with so few injuries. We thought you were lost when your heart stopped."
Lisa was in tears. I noted it—the first time I'd seen her cry for anyone, not even for Victor. Julian looked utterly miserable, as if he wanted to disappear. Part of me pitied him, but a rush of anger brought back every wrong he'd done. I wanted to strangle him and execute every awful method listed in our diary.
After the doctors finished their examination, Lisa asked if we could talk privately. They cautioned against shocking me or causing undue stress, but I paid no heed. I impatiently waited for them to leave the room because Julian needed to hear a piece of my mind.
Julian stood on the brink of leaving, but Lisa's firm voice stopped him in his tracks. "I didn't ask you to leave, Miller," she said, her attempt to remain composed evident in her tone.
Julian's voice trembled with guilt as he responded, "No, I can't stay here. It's because of me that Gina is in this state. I hurt her, frightened her, and worst of all, I thought I was right and only ended up scaring her more. If it weren't for me, she wouldn't have been out at that late hour. No matter how much I apologize, it'll never be enough because I can't even forgive myself."
My anger surged as I retorted, "You know that, right?! Huh?! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be lying here! And now, I don't want your apologies or your pleas for forgiveness. You owe me an explanation for your behavior, Julian! You scared me to death! You... you even tried... tried to do that!"
Lisa attempted to intervene calmly, "Bro, calm down. Don't shout. You shouldn't go to any extremes—"
Interrupting her, tears streaming down my face, I insisted, "No, Lisa! He owes me an explanation!" I turned back to Julian, my voice a mix of anger and despair. "Give me an explanation, Julian! Give me a fucking explanation for what you did!"
Julian's face contorted with pain and regret. "I'm sorry, Gina," he pleaded, "please don't cry. I can't bear to see you like this. I can't..."
"Then explain yourself!" I demanded, half-screaming and half-sobbing. Suddenly, the machine monitoring me started beeping loudly. A nurse rushed in, checking my vitals and urgently warning Lisa about my dangerously high blood pressure. "If this happens again," the nurse cautioned, "she may not be allowed visitors, and it could lead to unconsciousness."
Realizing the gravity of the situation, I took a deep breath, trying to compose myself despite the overwhelming emotions. Julian stood silently, his remorse palpable, unsure how to undo the damage caused by his actions.
isa gently soothed my head, trying to calm me down as I struggled to comprehend the situation. I couldn't believe I had loved someone like Julian. I felt a pang of regret, wishing I had never met him. The turmoil of dealing with amnesia and the current drama made me yearn for a simpler outcome, even wishing I had slipped into a coma to avoid all of this.
With heavy breaths, I began to suspect that Julian was the topic Victor and I discussed in the lost memory. As I took in my surroundings, Lisa attempted to give me water, while I noticed the bandage around my head and a plastered leg, indicating I likely had a fracture from the accident.
Julian spoke softly, "I... I met your ex-boyfriend."
i was about to ask if it was victor but remembered that Lisa doesn't know about it so I asked, "I had an boyfriend apart from Julian?" seeking clarity.
"yes," Lisa interjected firmly, "you had a boyfriend named Jacob in 10th grade. He was a grade older and used you. He even released inappropriate pictures of you, which broke your heart. Julian was the one who consoled you during that time. That's how your relationship started. Julian loved you deeply from then on and swore he would never let you get hurt. But as you can see, that promise didn't hold long," she added, casting a sarcastic glance at Julian.
Lisa continued, "I saw Julian with that guy that night. I was afraid to tell you because of your condition, Gina."
"So you lied to me, Lisa?" I finished her sentence, feeling anger consume me. I began to doubt what else they had kept from me. My best friend had lied to me, leaving me unsure whom to trust.
Julian spoke up, explaining his side, "He said he wanted to tell me something about you. I went because I couldn't bear the thought of him hurting you. I was ready to confront him for what he did to you. He said something about you that I couldn't believe—a vile accusation. There was no evidence, but he knew details about where you went that day, when you came home, and what you would say to me. At first, I thought it was a lie, but then you did exactly what he said, although it could have been guessed by anyone who knew you."
Lisa exploded in anger, "So what did he say to make you doubt your own wife, Julian?! Tell me!"
Julian hesitated, clearly distressed. "He said... he said, 'My Gina, my beloved Gina...'" His voice trailed off, unable to continue.
I felt a sharp pain in my head, struggling to maintain consciousness amidst the headache, the aftermath of the accident, and the turmoil of my fragmented memories. Julian looked concerned and offered me water, but I waved it off, demanding him to continue despite my condition.
"He said... he accused you of cheating," Julian finally managed to say, his voice filled with regret and anguish.
