●Persophone, the daughter of Zeus and Demeter was the wife of Hades and queen of the underworld. She was a dual diety since, in addition to presiding over the dead with intriguing autonomy, as the daughter of Demeter she was also the goddess of fertility.
Hades the ruler of the underworld decided he wanted to marry his sister, Demeter's Only daughter and snatched her one day whist persephone was picking wildflower, specially the narcissus flower for it's auroma. Seeing no way out of it. Zeus sent Hemes to the underworld to fetch Persophone back for her grieving mother.
He did precisely that, and Demeter and Persophone were once again reunited in Olympus. However, after being tricked by hades Persophone had tasted one pomegranate seed before leaving the underworld.
According to ancient laws, they obliged her to remain her in the underworld. Zeus proposed a compromise. Persephone would spend 2/3 of the year with her mother 1/3 of the year her new husband. Everybody agreed, and that is how the seasons were born and how the growth of crops were explained just like a seed.
Persophone spend few months of the year below the earth. This is the period of Demeter's grief which explains the Dark, winter, months. However when the time comes for persephone to go back to her mother, Demeter brings back the light and warmth and the earth rejoices In abundance.
Persophone is often the photo advocate for women in abusive relationship who found it inappropriate to escape.
