Ivy closed her notebook as her professor dismissed the class. She took out her phone. There was an email confirming her interview and a text message from Tate. She rarely heard from her friend and felt an uneasiness climb up into her throat as she clicked the message. It was an invitation to watch the first episode of Kasper's show with her. The star himself would be there.

"Bad news?" She looked up to see one of her classmates looking at her. Nate was a good-looking guy, but he was four years younger than her. Although flattered, Ivy didn't want to encourage his crush.

"No. Not at all."

"Were you sick yesterday?"

She shook her head. "I had a funeral to go to."

"I'm sorry."

"I went to support a friend." She wanted to mention her boyfriend, but wasn't sure if it was Jimmy or Baxter. He heart danced he wanted to take her out.

"Do you want my notes? We could discuss them over a cup of coffee."

Ivy shook her head. "I got a copy last night and read through them. Thanks anyway."

The poor kid looked like he lost his baseball game. Baxter played baseball. "A drink sometime?"

"Thanks but I'm seeing someone. Plus, I'm too old for you."

"Why did you pick this boring elective?"

"Boring? It's fascinating. I helped negotiate a new union contract as part of my internship."

"Um, okay. I guess that's cool. Where was your internship?"

"Just a corporate business. I wasn't lucky enough to get in at a law firm."

"My father is a partner. You should have asked me."

When he mentioned the firm, she frowned. "I already got a rejection letter from your daddy."

"I could talk to him."

Ivy shook her head. "It's okay. I have an interview with a different firm. I have another class."

She needed to reply to Tate, but first she wanted to check in with Eleanor. They had mentioned watching Kasper together. When Ivy came home after her visit with Freya, Eleanor was out, and Ivy fell asleep early, so they hadn't firmed up their plans.

Eleanor responded quickly. Be with the young people. Tate misses you.

Did her friend miss her? She replied to Tate agreeing to watch at her apartment.

Ivy arrived at Tate's a half hour before the start of the show. Kasper and Doyle were already there.

Kasper smiled. "The girl who got away."

Ivy laughed and Doyle asked, "How's Jimmy?"

"I haven't heard from him. I went to the funeral. He looked strong, but it must be hard. Maybe Baxter knows more."

"Who?" Doyle asked, laughing.

Ivy frowned. She wanted to protect him.

Kasper said, "She's kidding. We never see him. Mother said he went to Sinclair's last night."

Doyle laughed. "Kasper the peacemaker. When do you get voted out?"

"I'm not telling. I signed a contract. Tate, you read it."

Tate nodded. "They'll take his balls if he squeals."

"Ouch, Tate. I'll never get on another show. You sure you don't want to race with me?"
