The notorious band of thieves that had ensnared Chahrazad and her sister bore a menacing name: The Shadow Ravens. Infamous for their cruel cunning, they specialized in the dark arts of abduction and ransom. At the helm was a shadowy figure known as The Raven King, a young yet fearsome leader, just past his twentieth year, whose reputation struck fear into the hearts of even the bravest souls.
"Who dares to cross the Shadow Ravens?" he growled, his voice a low, menacing rumble as he surveyed his assembled crew. They stood in a dimly lit cavern, their eyes glinting like predatory birds. "Tonight, we feast on fear and reclaim what was taken from us!"
The roots of this band stretched back to his father's time, founded with noble intentions by the Raven King's father—the legendary Theron, the first King Raven. Once a symbol of hope and freedom, Theron had fought valiantly to liberate Thaloria from the clutches of Kormagor. His heroic efforts in the battlefields had made him a legend, but the jealousy of the Thalorian king led to his unjust execution. His son, now the Raven King, bore the weight of this betrayal, though he was barely a child when his father was taken from him.
"The world has cast us as villains," the Raven King lamented, bitterness dripping from his words. "But we are not the monsters they claim. We are the shadows they fear!"
Under his leadership, the Shadow Ravens had transformed from a noble band of freedom fighters into a powerful criminal force. The injustices his father suffered fuelled his rage, and the Raven King, now a man of 22, led with a fierce determination to make the world pay for the betrayal his family had endured. Each new member came to them with a personal vendetta—against corrupt rulers, wealthy merchants, or anyone who had wronged them. They roamed the land with unmatched ruthlessness, striking fear into the hearts of noble families.
"Are we to stand idly by while they live in their gilded cages?" one of the captains, a tall, gaunt man with a scar running down his cheek, questioned, his voice low but fervent. "We should take what they owe us—wealth, power, respect!"
"Exactly!" the Raven King replied, his eyes narrowing with fierce determination. "We will show them the consequences of their arrogance. And those who stand against us shall learn the true meaning of despair!"
Many of the thieves had tragic pasts. Some had lost loved ones to war or starvation. Others had been displaced by the greedy expansion of corrupt nobles. "My family starved while they feasted," one thief muttered, clenching his fists. "I will not let my children suffer the same fate."
But amongst the camaraderie, there was an unspoken rule: once you entered the fold of the Shadow Ravens, there was no turning back. The Raven King made it clear—those who dared to flee would meet a fate worse than death.
"Remember," he cautioned with a dark smile, "the moment you cross us, your soul belongs to the shadows. No mercy awaits the traitors among us!"
The Raven King himself had once cherished love and family, but tragedy had stripped away all that he held dear. He had watched as his father, the noble protector, fell victim to the very foes they sought to vanquish. Now, as the son of the first King Raven, he was consumed by a relentless thirst for revenge, transforming him into a figure shrouded in darkness.
"We are the harbingers of their reckoning," he proclaimed, raising his sword high. "Let them tremble at the mention of our name—the Shadow Ravens!"
The atmosphere crackled with anticipation as the thieves rallied around their leader, ready to carry out his sinister designs. The night deepened, cloaking their plans in shadows, as they prepared to unleash chaos upon the unsuspecting world, forever altering the fates of those who dared to stand in their way.
