Just when I thought I had had enough of a school day, I stepped into the classroom, only to find Lovia wielding a paper with an air of mischief. The class, brimming with enthusiasm, hung on her every word as she recited in her annoying shrill voice:
"So, ghorl, Detty December is on! We will turn the city upside down! See you soon in six days more when your bloody slave camp they call boarding school vacates..."
My, the reactions!
Hold on, hold on, geez! The letter was intended for me, a missive from my clique in my former school! Driven by a surge of emotion, I confronted that bitch of a class prefect, snatching the paper from her hands. Pain and madness etched my perfect beautiful face, and anger left me numb. I could hear my heartbeat loud in my ear.
Straightening her fitting blue uniform skirt and yellow shirt, she folded her arms, revelling in her triumph.
"Ohhhh, that was your letter?"she smirked.
Her eyes were telling me, "I dared. Now what can you do? Loser!"
I wanted to say something but the class erupted in cacophony, drowning out my words.
"Ruby-Anne, just let it go! She knows you are the most beautiful girl in the school, and she is envious of you."
"But you guys too were listening when she was reading."
"What did you expect us to do?"
"We all know it wasn't the right thing."
"Ei, but Ruby too, you are a spoilt brat oo!"
"These girls of our class!"
How dare she? How could she? Did she hate me that much to steal and expose my personal letter to these jeering eleventh graders? A note from my confidantes?
In the clandestine code of my former clique, the Mogul Girlies at Woodbeck High School, a decree stood:
Don't assail them in plain sight. Conceal your resentment. Retreat, strategize, and strike from the shadows, unbeknownst to them.
This girl won't escape unscathed. I swear, she will pay...and no one, absolutely no one can shield her from the hot burning fire of my fury.
In the piercing gaze, Lovia confronted me, and in that moment, Zakiya, my bestie, came up behind me, seizing my hand. Always composed, she awoke just as the chaos unfolded.
"Karma has its own dance," I whispered to Lovia. She reacted as if I was the mad one.
A distant siren wailed, marking the close of a Friday in this hellish hell.
