Maxon pov

(Day of chapter 2)

I get woken up by the sound of yelling outside of my door to my office.

"YOU CAN'T ARREST ME! I'M THE FRICKEN QUEEN AND I COMMAND YOU TO NOT ARREST ME!"

"Lady Kriss, we have orders to arrest any rebel leaders/supporters that are in the castle by the king himself. All of the guards at training have all sworn by an oath too and I took it the second I came to the palace to keep Mer safe." Just by that 1 name, I know that is Aspen trying to arrest Kriss. I get up and go outside to see what is happening and then I notice that I have a piece of paper stuck to my head. Crap. I tell myself. I must've fallen asleep working again.

I walk up to the hallway they are fighting in and hide around the corner. I know that they are around the corner because I also see my mom right behind me.

"What's going on? I heard a bunch of yelling."

"Kriss did something. Apen is trying to arrest her but is going nowhere. I might step into it in a second." I tell her and she walks over and smooths out my suit jacket and then she just takes it off knowing that it is a lost cause and that it doesn't matter what I look right around them.

I walk around the corner and Kriss puts on a face that shows she's innocent but I know that she isn't.

"MAXON, HONEY! He's trying to arrest me!"

"Shut up Kriss. I heard most of the conversation. Aspen, what's going on?"

"I was doing my round and then I caught Kriss going through a bunch of passageways and then she stopped at the wood and I heard her talking to people and then they all yelled, 'ALL HAIL QUEEN KRISS, the leader of the southern rebels!'"

I listen to Aspen and the all the sudden I am falling back.
