The Big Decision

As soon as I got onto my street I could feel a shift in the air. I couldn't decipher exactly if the shift in the air was good or bad but I knew that something was different and something just wasn't sitting right with me. As I got closer and closer to my house I noticed that there was a different car in the driveway and my moms Honda suv still wasn't there. My mom usually doesn't get home until around 6 p.m if she has meetings all day and it was almost 5 so it was pretty understandable to me why she still was not home. As for the weird car in the driveway, I have absolutely no idea who's car that is.

I hopped up each step leading to my front door. Each time my foot came in contact with the old wooden steps, I was greeted with a loud creak. I quietly shushed each wooden step as I hopped to the next one. I slowly tiptoed to the front door and shakily removed my house key from my bag. I turned the lock and unlocked the door. I slowly turned the door knob and was knocked backwards onto the front porch as someone yanked the door open.

I shifted my body, ready to kick the person to the ground if I needed to when a large hand clamped down over my foot and stopped me right in my tracks. I looked at the persons face and realized that it was a boy. A boy who looked to be a few years older than me but he wasn't too much older than me. I tried to get a better look at him and realized that this boy wasn't just any normal boy, he was my brother.

I kicked his hand off my foot and scowled at him,"Cole you know better than to scare me like that! I could've had a heart attack because of you!"

Cole chuckled,"What? I don't get a hug? I have been away for 2 years straight and I don't even get a hug? Or a 'I missed you so much Cole'?"

I frowned,"That was your decision to not come visit for 2 years straight. You were always busy. Busy busy busy. You always had something going on and you could never squeeze some family time into that schedule?" I threw my hands into the air, exasperated.

Cole sighed,"Come on Amber. Once your in college you will understand where I am coming from.Until then can I at least get a hug? I'm here now, right?" He opened his arms to me.

I pinched the bridge of my nose,"I will give you a hug on one condition. Tell me where Johnny is. Cause I know that you wouldn't have come all this way without bringing Johnny with you." I stare at him with a pointed look.

Cole laughed,"I knew there was gonna be some sort of catch to it. Johnny is less then ten feet away from you I would say." Cole looked at me and then at something just a little bit beyond the back of my head.

I slowly turned around to see my twin brother Johnny a few yards away from me,"Oh my gosh Johnny! I haven't seen you in forever! How have you been? How was boarding school? Was it fun? Did you get a girlfriend? How was it?" I threw one question after another at him as I started walking towards him.

Cole snatched my wrist and spun me back around,"Not so fast we had a deal remember?" He then proceeded to engulf me in a big bear hug. He was like a freaking snake, squeezing all of the air out of me.

Johnny called out from behind me,"Dude Cole don't kill her, I still haven't got my hug yet."He must have noticed that I was running out of air in my lungs, that twin telepathy comes in handy. That or the fact that my face was slowly turning purple.

Cole immediately let go of me and mumbled an apology. As soon as he let me go I ran as fast as my little legs could go and I jumped into Johnny's arms almost knocking us both to the ground,"Why have you been gone so long? I missed you to death. If this is all Coles fault I swear I'm gonna kill him for keeping my baby brother away from me for 2 years." I hissed into his shoulder as I gave him a big hug.

He chuckled and I slowly jumped off of him and back onto the ground,"Well you know that I was at that boarding school and I wanted to finish all of my exams and any extra paper work before I came to visit because I'm a nerd like that. And I don't see why you have to call me your baby brother. We are twins and you were only born a few minutes before me but only because you pushed me out of the way because you just had to be first!" He threw his hands in the air dramatically.
