I had lost the game- the amazing race. Before I could even speak out, Diana came ahead of me. Even though I didn’t get the prize this time, maybe I’ll have it sooner or later. If Diana was my rival, I won’t give up. I’ll never give up.
When I got home, mom was cooking dinner. The smell of boiled potatoes was totally appetizing.
“Where have you been? I am worried waiting for you.” Although she didn’t look at me, she knew I was there. As she stirs the pot of soup, I went towards her.
“I’m sorry. I forgot to inform you. I’ve been to the hospital today.” I stood beside the kitchen door, staring at the food she was cooking.
“Hospital! Why? Are you alright?” She kept on looking at the pot.
“Yes. Hilary was sent to the hospital because I unintentionally gave her milk smores. I never thought she would be lactose intolerant.”
“Oh. That’s so sad to hear from you. Perhaps you should be picky in giving food or stuffs next time,” She stopped stirring and added a pinch of salt to the soup. “How is she now?”
“She’s confined. She’ll definitely be alright. The incident upset her family, especially her mother.”
“They’ll understand as long as you apologized.”
I just gave her a long and deep ‘sigh’ for that comment.
The next day, rumors around the hospitalization of Hilary spread out. I heard two girls in the cafeteria talking about Hilary and me. I looked like a devil or demon for them. I didn’t mind. What they say wasn’t true anyway. They also mention Hilary went to school today despite of the 6-hour confinement.
We didn’t have our PE class at the open field today because of the heavy rain. Mr.Jefferson said we should just warm-up at the gymnasium.
I was five minutes late for science class. It has been a while since we had our laboratory experiments because Mr. Gordon was hospitalized for more than a week. It was horrible to be late in his class because it will be either you’ll be put on detention or you’ll be sitting on the corner alone while you’re partner will be left alone doing all the chores (which is unfair for him/her). Anyway, the reason why I was late was because I couldn’t find my science book. I may have left it at home or lost it (hopefully not). I quickly ran to the library to look for the same book because they always have spare books there. Luckily, I found one in the bookshelf. It has a name “Kelly McGregor” in it. I remembered she could be the girl in the guidance counselor’s office the other day. I never saw her again since then. I was wondering why her book was there. I mean, why would she leave such book? And why did she put it under the history books section? (It was funny how I randomly found it; Maybe due to adrenaline rush.) I quickly handed my library card to the bookkeeper. She was busy doing some paper works so she didn’t even bother to look at the book and signed anyhow.
When I was about to enter the class, I was really nervous. Not because I might get a detention but because of my lab partner, Hil. She might get angrier if I’ll be late. When I had arrived, I interrupted Mr. Gordon as he explained the new experiment. He gave me a face that clearly says “Why are you late?” with the raised eyebrows and left hand on the waist thing.
“I am sorry to distract.” I bowed my head and looked at my table only to find out that Diana was with Hilary. How was that even possible? Diana was not our Science classmate. She was having her Research class, if was not mistaken, during this time. I was obviously surprised.
“You may do your work alone at the back beside the table of Mr. Fernandez and Mr. Anderson.”
“What? Hilary is my partner but why is Diana here? Isn’t she supposed to be in her own class?”
