December 1st

"Yes, mom, I know. Yeah, yeah, I'll be- We! We'll be with you in some time. Don't worry, we're about to start packing" The door from the elevator opened, and your only hope walked through the door. "Well, gotta go, mom. Love you"

As soon as she replied with an "I love you too," you hung up and casually sat on the kitchen counter.

"You do know Stark's gonna be mad as hell when finds out you sit on his counter?" Bucky asked with a chuckle, resting his back on the counter beside you.

"I know". You were in silence as Bucky took a bite from his morning toast, wondering if you'd brace yourself to ponder the question that had been lingering in your mouth ever since he walked into the room. "Buck?"

"Hmm?" he mumbled with his mouth full of toast as he turned to you with a soft, barely noticeable sparkle on his baby blue eyes.

"Buck, you know you're my best friend, right?" But I want to be more than that. Your question made him look at you amused, but he nodded nevertheless. "Well, you know how I haven't had a boyfriend for a few months now?" At which he nodded as well. "Well, a few weeks ago I may have told my mom I had a boyfriend and now she's asked me and my 'boyfriend' to spend Christmas with them"

His breath caught in his throat when he thought about what you were about to ask him, "So you are inquiring that..."

"Please, pretend to be my boyfriend, Buck?" You asked, taking his hand on yours.

Although he was already expecting it, he choked on his toast while his face turned slightly red. You were no better. You'd had a crush on him for a few months now, asking him to pretend to be your boyfriend was the equivalent to actually asking him to be your boyfriend.

"I'll do anything," You pleaded while holding his hand tighter.

He hesitated for a moment before agreeing with a mumbled "Fine".

You got down from the counter and hugged him tightly, "Thank you, Buck! I owe you big time!" You exclaimed.

"Sure as hell you do," He smiled softly as he caressed gingerly your cheek.

A soft tint of red kissed your cheeks, and it wasn't due to the cold, as you felt his breath on your face. The wires in your brain seemed to work again when you received a call from your mother yet again. You hesitantly let go of him and picked your phone up, answering the call.

"Hey, darling. I forgot to tell you, your niece and nephews are so eager to see you back, they are so happy their superhero aunt will be able to be with them again for a few days. So don't forget to get them a gift"

You chuckled as your heart melted softly, "No, ma. I bought something for each, okay? Now, we gotta go pack, love you" You cut the call again, before heading for the elevator, "Oh, yeah! Start packing! We leave in a few hours" You exclaimed before the elevator door closed.

Bucky shook his head with a lovestruck smile, "Might be my chance" He mumbled before heading for his room and starting to pack.

During the flight, you had to remind yourself many times that, as flushed as you might get, you had to pretend you were a couple, hoping your feelings wouldn't get in the way. Bucky just smiled at you reassuringly the thousand times you had thanked him for doing this, although on the inside he was just as freaked out as you.

You had just arrived at your parents' house, where your older brother, Harry, would also be staying with his wife and three kids. When your mother opened the door, her arms immediately wrapped around you holding you closely.
