Muichiro managed to fall asleep after silently crying until his tears ran out. He had been sleeping for a few hours before Tanjiro's eyes fluttered open, the room a blur of lights around him until his vision focused.

He looked around wondering where he was before the memories came back to him. He was in the hospital. The last thing he remembered was being in the car on the way here, in immense pain from his throat down to his stomach.

He didn't seem to feel too bad at the moment, slight soreness in the whole of his body but nothing compared to before. Then, he noticed a clicking noise within the room, something other than the monitor on his heart.

A clock sat opposite Tanjiro's bed. He looked up, trying to make out the numbers on the clock. It appeared to be around four am, but Tanjiro felt his vision was slightly blurry compared to normal and he couldn't make out the numbers on the clock properly.

4 am, he wondered. It was already the next day. He looked down to see Muichiro's face buried in his arms, still holding Tanjiro's hand as he slept peacefully. Tanjiro admired the boy's angel like features, the softness of his face and the lightness of the air that he was breathing in and out. Tanjiro loved to just admire his boyfriend, as he slept, cooked, it didn't matter. No matter what Muichiro was doing, he had an elegant and soft presence but was adorable in every action he took.

Tanjiro chuckled quietly at the thought, but the extra movement sent his body into a coughing fit, which quickly woke up Muichiro. "Are you ok?! Do you need something? I can get a towel. I'll get a towel," Muichiro said quickly. He jumped up and ran to the bathroom with astonishing speed for someone who had been unconscious just a few seconds ago.

He came back with a wad of paper towels and handed them to Tanjiro, who proceeded to hack up a concerning amount of blood. Around a minute later, Tanjiro's coughing fit seemed to settle down, and he took a shuddery breath before relaxing back into the pillows behind him.

"I'm going to get the doctor" Muichiro stated, and then hurried out of the room, hoping nothing eventful would happen in the time Tanjiro was in the room by himself.

The blue eyed boy found the doctor he recognized from earlier and tapped her on the shoulder, as she was throwing away some gloves in a garbage can near Tanjiro's room. "Hi um, Tanjiro just woke up and he was coughing a lot of blood. Could you check on him please? I'm getting really worried..." Muichiro managed to say the lot of it without stuttering, as he normally did when he was nervous or anxious.

The doctor gave a quick nod and then Muichiro followed her back to Tanjiro's room. Tanjiro's breathing had evened out since, but the pile of bloody towels on his lap spoke for itself.

"Oh my..." the doctor said, mainly to herself, as she gathered the towels to throw them away. She came back shortly and started asking Tanjiro some questions.

"Do you feel any pain when you breathe?" she asked.

Tanjiro shook his head no. "I have a little soreness throughout my body, and my chest hurts a bit from that coughing fit, but it doesn't get worse when I breathe" Tanjiro said quietly, not seeming to have the strength to talk louder.

"Well that is a good sign. I had two other patients present in the same way as you, and both of them had a lot of pain when they were breathing. This could mean you have more time than they did, but I cannot promise you anything..." the doctor sighed. Going from room to room on a level of the hospital where patients were dying everywhere was a mental toll that she didn't wish on anyone. It was like seeing so many faces that were bound to fade away.

Tanjiro nodded slightly. Then the doctor proceeded to ask more questions. "Did the coughing fit come out of nowhere? Were you talking or moving when it happened?"

Tanjiro raised an eyebrow in thought. "I believe I was starting to laugh and then it felt like there were thorns in my chest and I started to cough uncontrollably." The doctor gave a curt nod.

"Well that does make sense in a way...I would recommend refraining from laughing if you can for now," the doctor said with a slight chuckle. Tanjiro smiled.

"I'll make a mental note," he said, with a slight grin on his face. Muichiro nodded in agreement.

The doctor checked all of Tanjiro's vitals on the machine, checking for irregular patterns before leaving the two alone again.

"Hey Muichiro?" Tanjiro said, rather suddenly.

"Yeah babe?" Muichiro replied, somewhat quietly.

"I love you...just in case I won't be able to say it many more times... I love you a lot ok?" Tanjiro said.

Muichiro's eyes clouded over with tears as he pressed his body closer to the sick boy's. "I love you too."
