5: Adrenaline, Lust, Anticipation
We're running.
We're running as if we're being chased, although the only thing that's rushing after us are the ghosts of our heavy breaths that dissipate into the chilly, nighttime air. Our high-pitched laughs ring around us and echo from the tall building we're weaving our way in the streets through. Our gazes meet, both of us having the same fire blazing inside them.
Adrenaline.
Lust.
Anticipation.
So many emotions pulsing through my veins and coursing throughout my entire body to where I'm practically high on Will. His laugh, his smile that spreads from ear-to-ear, his eyes glowing with life behind his dark glasses.
I know right then that I want to kiss him.
I stop in my tracks, not thinking, not feeling. My hand tugs on his when he runs ahead of me without realizing I've come to a halt, and when he looks back at me his broad smile weakens and his brows furrow in concern.
My breathing is erratic, although I'm not sure if it's from the running or the emotions raging inside of me. He opens his mouth to ask me something but I shake my head to stop him. Curious, he steps closer to me but not close enough. Hesitantly, I fill the small space that's between us and realize then how confident I'm being about all of this. Who is this girl? I wonder, and I can practically feel the same question on Will's lips.
But instead of asking me, I stand on my tip-toes and meet my lips with his. He's frozen for a second, obviously not seeing this coming so soon, but immediately after his small hesitation he returns the kiss and I'm left melting. He seems to realize my difficulty and wraps his arm around my waist, somehow managing to bring us even closer together.
I'm feeling everything at once.
Adrenaline.
Lust.
Anticipation.
I want more.
He seems to return the feelings because he parts, our breaths ragged, and his eyes dazzle with excitement and want. "I want you to see my house." I say, nodding to the apartment complex only a few blocks down.
His lips roll inside his mouth, almost like savoring the taste, but I can feel the hesitation in his hands and the way his body freezes. I tug at shirt's sleeve, motioning for him to lean closer to me. His face brightens, as if caught in some spell, and he leans his face closer to mine expecting a kiss. But instead, I avoid his lips and brush my cheek with his, whispering in his ear, "Just say yes."
I can feel his cheek rising against mine, spreading his perfect lips into a smile. "Yes."
