She gently stroked a few layers of mascara on her eyelashes.
"There," she said. Just that little bit of length that was added to her eyelashes made her feel confident. He like her best without makeup, but she knew he wouldn't mind. She was so glad that her best friend of many years had become her boyfriend. She hoped their relationship lasted as long as her life did. Snapping out of her daze, she grinned. Her dog's ear-splitting barks meant that he had arrived. She walked down the short hall to the living room. Standing there, she watched. She was wearing Pink-brand sweat pants and the tee shirt from her mom's surgery fundraiser. He tossed his stuff into the dark blue armchair and looked up at his loving girlfriend, grinning at him. Walking over he embraced her, wrapping his arms around her waist, holding her tightly. They stood there for a moment just taking in the moment, thankful that they had each other. She drew her head back and kissed him gently. It was slow and loving.
"Let's kick some butt," she smirked at him. He smiled back.
"I'll set up the game," he sighed jokingly. She laughed and walked into the small kitchen. She pulled out the bag of microwave popcorn and started rubbing the edges of the bag against the un-popped popcorn. She always prepared the popcorn like this. "Coke or lemonade?" she asked.
"Water. I've got a game tonight remember?"
"I know, I know. Just making sure." She giggled. He'd been playing soccer even before they met. That was over 6 years ago. He was an after-school kid like her.
Beep. Beep. Beep. She took the popcorn out of the microwave and poured it in a bowl. He had already set up the TV-trays, so she carried in the water for him, the lemonade for her, and the bowl of popcorn. She set them down and sat on the couch with a bounce. Sitting in the pretzel-like position, she grabbed a controller from his hand. He sat down next to her and the game was on. They played all day only taking breaks to eat or drink. For lunch she made mac and cheese and convinced him to drink lemonade with it. After finishing almost half the game, he left to get ready for his game. She said she would meet him there. She'd been to many other games but never as his girlfriend. So, tonight she was going to meet his soccer friends for the first time. Dressed up more than usual- but still casual, she drove to his game.
