I shiver as another gust of wind blows through the field, causing the light layer of snow that has built on top of the frozen flowers to twirl in the air.
Even in mid-January, when the air is cold and snow falls from the skies, I love coming to the Flowerfield. It's safe to say that no other place gives me complete peace like this. Though it may be cold, and even though the flowers can't bloom in the winter, this place is somehow still beautiful.
I heave a gentle sigh, my breaths the only thing that can be heard apart from the swooshing of flowers through the light howling of the wind.
This place may be beautiful all year, yet it feels...empty. Like something is missing. In fact, ever since that day, each time I come here alone it feels like something, or someone, is missing.

(Chapter thirteen of Spiderlove)Sooyun turned around and just when she was about to walk back up the stairs, Jisung stopped her.
"So...since neither of us have anything to do..." he started.
Sooyun nervously waited for him to continue, both excited and terrified at what his next words could be.
"...wanna hang out?"
Sooyun's eyes went wide at the proposition, but she said nothing for a while. She didn't know what to say. Here was a very good-looking boy who she had only met that day, asking her if she wanted to spend time with him. If she said yes, all hopes of giving a good first impression would be lost because he would undoubtably see that Shin Sooyun was the most boring person on earth.
"Sure."
A smile immediately formed on Jisung's face, and he let out a small puff of air that he had been holding.
"Where do you wanna go?" he asked excitedly.
Sooyun glanced away, fearing exactly this. She had no clue where she wanted to go.
"Hm...you decide."
"Why don't you decide?"
"I don't know, I'm bad at picking places. I'm boring." she admitted.
"I like boring." Jisung blurted out.
Sooyun's eyes blew wide as her heart skipped a beat. She didn't even know why.
So many thoughts were flooding through her head.
There's a pretty boy who I just met today who seems really nice and he wants to spend time with me.
And he hasn't run away yet.
And he wants to do something boring.
Sooyun smiled.
And as she stood there stuck in her thoughts, Jisung was still waiting for her to pick a place.
That's when she got an idea.
Even though she had only met Jisung today, and even though she didn't know if they would be friends in the future, and even though her secret place was somewhere nobody knew about apart from her, she suddenly knew where she could take him to hang out.
"There's somewhere I always go when I want to just...be at peace. I'd like to take you there, if you want."
"Sure!" Jisung beamed, "lead the way."

The Flowerfield was something Sooyun called paradise. It was located only ten minutes away from her house, but it was in this offset location that no one seemed to know about. She found it one day when she was in middle school, when she was walking aimlessly to try to run away from her problems. Nature had preserved itself beautifully in the vast field, and not one human was in sight. Ever since Sooyun found it, she couldn't stop venturing back there.
The only person she told to about it was Yeona, but she wasn't as interested in it as her. She preferred playgrounds. Also, after Yeona accompanied her to the field once, her throat hurt and her nose ran for days and that's when she discovered she had pollen allergies.
Besides Yeona, nobody knew about it.
Well, that was before she and Jisung finally arrived.
"Woah." He said.
Sooyun smiled as Jisung just stood there in awe.
"So beautiful..."
Jisung picked up his feet and began walking up ahead. A walk turned into a jog, which turned into a run. He explored the vast landscape, wonderstruck at the surrounding colours with sparkling eyes. Sooyun followed him, unable to contain her smile.
She watched him stop in the middle of the field and spin around to take in the beautiful landscape. All she wanted to do was pull her phone out and take a picture, because before she brought Jisung here, she thought this field was the most beautiful thing in the world. Now, she realized the most beautiful thing in the world was actually Jisung skipping around in her field.
Instead, she decided to run down the hill and join Jisung, who was now serenely laying in the grass. She giggled when he twitched and scratched his arm next to her, because laying in a field of grass for some reason makes you feel like bugs are crawling all over you.
"We should be friends." Jisung sighed.
"We should." Sooyun agreed.
Jisung grinned, turning to face her. "Hi, my name is Han Jisung."
"Hi, my name is Shin Sooyun."
"Sooyunnie," he laughed, "if this is what you call boring, then you're the best kind of boring."
