At least from what we saw during the five minutes we stayed in the auditorium, it seemed boring. Nothing happens in opening assemblies, it's always the same thing each year.
Technically we're not allowed to just miss the assembly, and usually I don't, but it's actually very common for students and even teachers to be found skipping them. After all, they're kind of just a huge waste of time.
And that's how we find ourselves sitting on a bench outside of school eating snacks from the convenience store.
"So what did you guys do over the break?" Jeongin asks.
"Ooh, Minho and I went on a trip together." Jisung says.
"When he says trip, he means we went to his grandparents' house two hours away." Minho clarifies.
"It was very fun. We um, picked apples."
"It was chill."
"That sounds cool..." Hyunjin says, "I went on a cruise."
"When?" Seungmin asks.
"Over the brea—"
"No, when did I ask."
Hyunjin scowls at him.
"Hyung, Why would you go on a cruise in winter?" Jeongin ponders.
"Weirdo." Yeona says.
"I hate you guys."
"Anyways," Seungmin dismisses, "I visited Chan's dorm."
"Wait, really? How was it?" Felix wonders.
"Is he sleeping properly?"
"Haha, nope."
"I shouldn't have expected otherwise."
The group continues to share their activities. We discover that most of us just stayed home and didn't really do much, apart from Jeongin who went to a camp, and Hyunjin who...went on a cruise.
"What did you do Sooyun?" Jisung asks.
"Um, nothing."
I almost slap myself. Why am I speaking to Jisung like how a teenager in puberty speaks to their parents?
Not that it's that far from the truth.
"I literally just acted lazy and did nothing all winter. Um, I also learned how to crochet."
"Woah! That's so cool. Do you have pictures?"
I nod. "But they're bad."
I unlock my phone and open my gallery, quickly scrolling until I find the album where I keep all the pictures of my little crochets.
"This is the first one I ever made, so it looks questionable. Also, the eyes fell out after I took that picture and I can't find them anymore."
