The rest of the summer went by quickly, but I enjoyed it as I now had a better relationship with both Tony and Pepper. After the confrontation on my birthday Tony had made sure to spend more time with me, letting me inside the lab to help as he tried to teach me everything he could about his tech and the suits. Also, at least once every week we would go either to the beach or to the city, whether we went shopping (which I discovered is something I deeply enjoyed doing when Pepper accompanied us), he showed me to tourist attractions, or we would just walk around the city eating ice cream or some other form of dessert. I had also been trying to learn how to cook, so I could replicate some of my favorite meals of my childhood, but so far I haven't been really successful, I have to say I never thought the house elves's kitchen work was hard until I actually tried cooking.
A very good thing that had happened was that thanks to Fury I was actually able to get myself an owl so I could send letters to the closest postal office (one that I'd found was not too far away from Los Angeles) and now I could communicate and contact easier with my friends. I had yet to use it to send anything to anyone, since I didn't exactly know how to reach out to them, but I've been planning to send them a little gift on Christmas to get back in contact. Another thing that had happened was that Tony decided to surprise me by arranging to get me a subscription to a wizarding newspaper here that was delivered every morning to my window, sure it mostly was stuff that happened here in America but sometimes they had published about things that had happened in England, like the trials of some of the death eaters that had been held.
The only bad thing about that though was that one of the very first papers I received had an article about me being spotted here, with a moving picture of me and Tony posing in front of the Chinese Theater for my birthday. 'Former death-eater, now so called Avenger Irya Lestrange spotted in the middle of LA' the article went on about how the journalist that wrote it thought I was just a time bomb, waiting to explode and cause chaos and harm. That was a rough week, but then I warmed up to reading it daily when all subjects relating to me were forgotten.
The months were passing by fast, and although I was happy I was finally getting closer to Tony, and I could finally feel I have a true, real dad that cared about me, I couldn't help but worry for him. His mental health had been progressively getting worse, and he had been obsessing over making as many suits as he could, making them better and looking forward to come up with greater ideas for upping the security and functionality of them. He had even suggested making a suit for me, and even though I refused I'm pretty suspicious he has been secretly making one when I'm not in the lab.
By now, the cold of the winter was taking over the warm weather in California, and I couldn't help but miss the snowy days back at Hogwarts. But right now I couldn't help but focus on trying to help Tony, at first I thought if I helped him make his suits and all of that then perhaps that would help him be a bit more relaxed but no. It seems no matter what I did to try and help him he'd spend days awake just tinkering about in his lab, and worrying about things that happened around the world.
One of the things that had him more on edge was the Mandarin guy, the leader of a terrorist group that had been bombing places all around and threatening the security of the country and things like that. I personally think we should go after him and end it once and for all, I mean I'm sure if we asked Rogers or Natasha for help they'd come. But as soon as I mentioned the idea to Tony he got even worse, I thought he might be starting to have an attack or something, so I just changed the subject and didn't bring it up again, I didn't want to make him get worse.
Right now it was late December, and I was down at the lab with Tony as he had wanted me to see how his new upgrade to his suits worked. He had injected himself with like fifty microchips to be able to 'call' the suit to go to him, and I have to admit that's pretty fucking badass. Right now we knew Pepper was just about to get home from work so we had planned to surprise her with the new suit. So as we were still in the lab, the suit was sitting in the sofa in the living room. We heard the unmistakable clicking of Pepper's heels as she entered the house and we shared a mischievous look.
