Diana's right leg bounces as she watches the surroundings pass in a blur. You watch her for only a brief moment before facing the road again. You left the community behind about ten minutes ago. It's the first time she's left the walls since the city. It's making her anxious, as expected.

"Dad, where are we going?" Diana asks. This is the fifth time she's asked and she's getting frustrated.

"Out." You give her the same answer you have every time she's asked.

"Where?" She repeats.

"You'll see."

She crosses her arms, refusing to look at you. She's not mad, she's just scared. "You're frustrating sometimes, you know that?"

"Don't be like that."

"You're the one being an ass."

"Do you have your knife and gun?" You ask.

"Yes." She doesn't check.

"Check them."

She groans and checks. "I have them."

"What about our bags?"

"We threw them in the back. They're there." She doesn't check. She was like this on the way to the city, too.

"Di, are you gonna be like this every time I take you outside the walls?"

"Are you gonna ask me stupid questions every time we go outside the walls?"

"Until you're more experienced and older, yeah. Now check the bags." You tell her.

She rolls her eyes and leans into the back. "Oh my, God."

"What?" You ask.

"They're gone."

Your heart drops a little. She's more than likely joking. "Shut up."

"I'm serious," she returns to the front. "They're not back there. Look for yourself."

"I can't."

"Stop the car."

"You're lying."

"I'm not."

You finally stop the car and put it in park. Diana is smiling at you. "Diana."

"Dad."

Should you look? This is a challenge, and you'll lose if you do. She's clearly lying and she's not trying to hide it... But you're aware that ignoring the challenge will not help her. Taking the obvious bait and looking will make her happy and ease her worry.

You look. The bags are there, right where you left them. "Fuck you." You start driving again, smiling.

She's laughing at you now. "You're so stupid! We put them there ourselves, where would they have gone?"

"Someone could have taken them."

"When?"

You shake your head.

"What's next? Gonna ask me to recite all the laws about leaving the walls?"

"Do you want to?" You ask.

"No."

"I think you know them well enough. So, I won't make you."

"Tell me where we're going now, Dad," Diana says. She's so stubborn that she won't drop it until you arrive at your location or you tell her where you're going.

"Out." You tell her again. You're stubborn, too. "I'm not telling you until we get there."

"You're such a bitch. What's the harm in telling me?" She pulls her legs up into her seat.
