Chapter 8 - Mistaken

I started tapping my foot anxiously as I heard the door bell ring. Every second after Ian left, I had been thinking of this. I don't know why I was making a big deal out of this. I walked towards the main door after a few seconds of my inner indecisiveness.

I saw two police officials standing at the threshold as I opened the door. They were holding some files.

"May I help you." I said keeping my cell inside the pocket. I offered them to come inside and sit as I was still in doubts about the text I just recieved from Alex to meet her ASAP.

"Yeah. We are here for James Acker homicide case. Your alibi bailed out. Well, he didn't only bail but turned out to be dead. Do you have to say something about that?" He said sitting on the couch.

"Yes. Actually the Ian I was talking about lives on 30th Westwood street not 33rd. I'm sorry for my slip-up. Anything else? " I answered politely.

" We'll check that later." He said noting it down.

"Well, if that's all I'm afraid I have to rush to school." I said moving towards the front door.

"Its Saturday. Do you have school on saturday?" One of the two said, after 2 seconds of which his phone started ringing.

"Yeah, I'm there. No I'm in the middle of a case investigation. Can't this wait?" I heard him reply on the other end.

I stopped midway and turned around . The detective stood up in surprise and looked at is partner.

"There was some fault in the autopsy?" He said irately.

"Thanks for your time. We'll come back again. Something important has turned up regarding the case." He told me as I froze my eyes on the figure standing right outside the window in front of which these officers were standing.

"Okay. I hope you catch the person behind this soon." I lied panicking. His every now and then appearances will soon bring him as well as me into trouble.

"So do we." The officers said leaving as I opened the door for them.

I sighed heavily with relief .

That was close.

I moved towards the window and pushed the hinges on awning to open it. He jumped inside no sooner than I did that.

"Are you and trouble related somehow? 'cause every minute I'm starting to think that this relation just keeps getting stronger."

"You're the one that keeps me from thinking straight." He smirked closing the window.

"I can't understand thi-this thing going on between us. First you make me do things, then your the one protecting me from the perils that's caused due to it."

"It's complicated." That's all he answers.

"Uncomplicate it for me then."

"Umm, Important things first. I heard that officer talking on the phone. That body wasn't of James." He said ignorning my question.

"What?! Then whose body was it? " I spoke baffled.

"Wait. Did you just say you heard him? You were right outside my sound-proof window." I said as his face suddenly turned pale.

"Uh, I just did." He said again ignorning my question.

"Ian, you need to answer me. You can't keep me in the dark, this long! I'll find a way on my own to find answers to my questions, if you don't and believe me, I can go to any extent. If you want my trust and for me to do exactly as you say, answer me."

This has to stop. He needs to answer me for once and for all.

"Meet me today at the old bridge near your school. Today at 5." Ian wispered in my ear before leaving.

****************************

I rushed to school to meet Alex. The hallway was empty, it was dark but there was a faint light which helped me see. I again removed my phone to see where exactly she had asked me to meet.

I you want to talk to me meet me today in school at 4 in the chemistry Lab, Alex.

I saw a lean figure standing in chemistry lab alone. Her back faced me. She kept texting furiously from her phone as I entered.

"Alex?" I questioned moving forward.

"Wrong guess." She said turning around, removing the brunette wig.

I stood there staring at her. The same blue eyes, blond hair. The same evil expressions as before. The same person who tried to kill me in my dreams.

"Who are you?"

"Well, it's time I answer your questions. So firstly I'm Ava, Ian's girlfriend. Secondly stay the hell away from him." She said moving forward.

"You're lying" I said disbelievingly.

"Reality bites, doesn't it?" She said with a small grin.

I left the lab and started to move towards the hallway.

You don't need to believe her. She is lying. She's just messing with you.

I kept rattling this pacing until I reached the entrance of the bridge. I just kept moving forward until I reached my destination.

Only one can prove her wrong. One one person can make make things right. Only him. Only Ian.

I heard some noise at behind the trees near the bridge as I walked.

"Ian?" I called out.

When I didn't get a reply, I followed the voice which were coming from behind those bunch of Eastern hemlock trees.

"She knows it." I saw the Ava from before talking to Ian behind the trees.

How did she reach here before me?!

"You told her?! I warned you Ava to stay the hell away from her. What do you think you're doing?!"

"Well, she knows the truth now. There's nothing you can do about it."

"Is that true?" I asked him with the little hope I had left moving in front of them.

"Katherine, please let me explain." He said moving away from Ava. I saw her smirk wickedly at me.

"No. I don't want to hear anything else from you. I'm done with you, Ian."

I bolted from there. The tears kept falling, blurring my vision.

This can't be happening. The only person that I trusted for some unknown reason had betrayed me.

I kept going, I ignored every sound in my way. The only sound that was afftecting me was now of my heart shattering into pieces. I never knew he could hurt me so much. I didn't know he could cause me this amount of pain. I suddenly saw two headlights right in my direction. Before I could move or do anything , I crashed into it and fell on the ground. I could hear faint noises in the background but my vision was hazy to see anything. His voice calling my name was the last thing I heard before blackness took over me..
