Chapter 7 - Not So Innocent

"Come on! Don't tell me you didn't do anything to find out who that bitch was!? " Cece screamed gaining the unwanted attention of the people around the cafeteria.

"Why would I?" I answered in a low tone. I didn't want to start the same conversation again. I refrained myself from knowing what Mark did nowdays as it didn't matter to me.

"Because that is what exes do!" Cece maintained her higher pitch, but now the weird gazes were suddenly focussed on me. They didn't know about the incident at masquerade but thanks to my miss extremely loud best friend I'm pretty sure they found their gossip for the day.

"Keep your voice low!" I tried to say although I knew it was of no use.

"Okay ,okay. But I will find her. She can't do this to you and then get away with it so easily." Cece wispered.

Thank god for that! If she would have continued her loud voice, I would have seriously stuffed that half eaten apple in her mouth!

"Cece I appreciate your concern but I seriously don't wanna know." I lied. I knew that if I knew about her I would definately have the urge to confront her about it and given my current situation I don't think I should invite anymore trouble for myself.

The bell rang suddenly making me stop abruptly from continuing the conversation.

"Bye!" I said hurriedly, gathering all my books and rushed towards the english class.

"Alex?" I said after she rushed ahead of me.

"Hey! Alex." This time I called out her name so loudly that even the subject instructor gave me a stern look.

"Sorry" I mouthed to Mr. Dest and queitly went towards my seat. I didnt understand the reason for Alex's such odd behaviour, but all my doubts about her got cleared after school.

*********************

"What?" I asked Cece as she hand-gestured me something from her car while I was walking towards mine.

"Come here." She wispered. I guess its really something big 'cause Cece isn't the type who whispers.

I walked towards her car and sat inside it for which the door was already left open for me.

"What's happening? And why are you whispering?" I looked at her as she was now furiously turning her head left and right.

"What's happening C..?" I asked her getting worried.

"Okay you remember you had told me about the girl's dress description who was with Mark?" She said removing her blackberry.

"Yeah.. What about her?" I said trying to understand what was happening.

"Well , I found her." She said tilting her phone.

"You did?" I shrieked in surprise. Although I wasn't planning to react this way.

I looked at the phone and saw the girl in that same silver gown as I did before at the masquerade.

"Oh shit."

"Yeah. That's what. Shit's happening." She said while I still tried to take in the fact.

"So it was Alex?" I asked even after seeing that display picture of her's on the BBM messenger.

"Well, I know you aren't dumb. So I would appreciate if you work on showing it to other people too. For instance, me." Cece as usual replied amusingly.

"That explains why she was ignoring me." I said remembering how Alex refused to be my lab partner and walked in my opposite direction throught the day.

"But why is she doing this?" Cece said starting the car engine.

"Only one person can answer that " I said removing my phone.

"Alex." I continued dailing her number.

*********************************

I walked through my room and saw him standing. He was sitting beside the windowpane, somewhere lost as he did'nt notice me entering.

"Ian?" I said moving foward slowly.

"The cops are coming here tomorrow for questioning you again. I need you to tell them there's another Ian Richards. Here is his address. I have talked to him. He will say the exact same thing. As far as westwood street is concerned, say you made a mistake instead of saying 30 you said 33. The faux Ian lives on 30. I want you to make them believe your story." He said as he handed me the address and stood up.

"Yeah. Alright." I agreed.

"Although there's one more thing I need you to do." I continued.

"What?" He said

"Keep tabs on Alex." I replied.

"Why?" He asked

"Somethings fishy about her." I answered. I needed to find out more about her, given she isn't even responding to my calls. I need to find out why would she betray me like this. She was the one who hated Mark , then what changed that she would do this to me.

-------------------------------------

Alex's POV

I took my cell out of my bag to notice there was 10 missed calls from Cece and Kate, 5 texts from Cece.

Well, I guess my plan worked well.

My phone started vibrating, showing a private number.

"Alex here" I answered.

"It worked out well, as you wanted , Ava. I will keep an eye on him." I said.

"Well done, Alex. Make sure Derek doesn't find out." she answered.

"I'll be there soon." she continued disconnecting the call.

Well be prepared Kate for your soon-to-be-doomed life. I had been pretending to be this girl I never was to make you believe me, but there was a change in the plan. I have no whatsoever interest in that jerk Mark. It was all a part of the plan.

"Everything is not what it seems."
