Chapter 10 - Disappeared
Ian's POV
I couldn't think at this particular moment, the only thing my life revolved around was in front of my eyes in a deep sleep that she may never wake up from. Those words the doctor said a few minutes ago kept ringing in my ears, no matter how much hard I tried to make myself think about all the possibilites that I could do to help her, but the hard fact that I didn't want to face was that there was nothing I could do. Just wait for it to be okay. Just wait for some miracle to happen, at this stage I felt no less than a petty helpless human.
The monitor beeped in the background indicating her heart beats. Her bruished forehead bandaged.
All those injuries made her look so fragile.
It has been a week, since her accident and there was no sign of any improvement in her. If she didn't respond to the medication for a few more days then it would be difficult to save her.
The color on the walls of the hospital room matched the mood I was in,
it had a gloomy vibe to it. People kept hovering in the waiting room that was just in front of Katherine's. Their faces were pale, their heart beating at a loud pace just to get one news of how their loved ones were doing.
The nurse entered the room with a chart, she cleared her throat "The visiting hours are over, I'm sorry but you need to leave." she added. She had seen me here waiting all day for Katherine to show some signs of improvement.
I glared at her and left the room. I didn't like the idea of leaving her here in this state. I ran to my house, feeling the air whipping around me. It was kind off a daily routine now.
I would stay with her until the visiting hours, run to my home and then snuck back in at night to look out for her.
But today was different, I had this feeling inside me that something is going to happen. A bad omen.
Also because of the bad news Derek gave me this morning.
"I found the person behind it." Derek said."I have been trying to reach you but you were never available. So I had to come here." He continued.
"Who is it?" I said as I raised my hand to brush Katherine's cheeks. I interwined my hand with hers and placed it to my lips.
"Please don't leave me" I murmured on her hand and gave a gentle squeeze but continued to held her hand.
"It was Alex." He whispered slowly.
I wouldn't have heard him if I was a human.
"Ava?" I asked him.
"Yes." He replied.
I knew deep down that Ava was behind this. I knew it was her plan. Her smirk. It was all there but I was too late to do something, to figure out, to do something. If I had been a little more careful Katherine wouldn't be lying here in this state. It's all my fault.
"I was following Alex. Ava changed the location last minute when she came to know we were tracking her." he trailed of.
"Ian?"
"Where is she?" I growled with rage.
"They disappeared, It's all my fault."
"No, if anyone is to blame it's me, this is not you're fault. Just try to find her for now. I can't leave Katherine. I've already broken that promise once."
I reached my house and saw an envelope sitting on the floor mat.
I picked it up and opened it.
Dearest Ian,
You don't know her as I do. What I did was for everyone's best interest, but you can't even see it.
She ruined everything. I know you think that I am saying this because I'm jealous. You are right, I am jealous but your reason is wrong.
Love you always and forever,
Ava, XOXO.
Everyone's best interest or hers?
I crushed the letter and threw it away.
What a manipulative lair, I've known her games from before and there's nothing that will change my mind about her real intentions.
I entered the house and smelt a familiar scent, someone has been here in my absence.
A gift wrapped box was awaiting on the dining table. I lifted it up and ripped the gift paper apart.
It was wooden box with some old cravings on it. I tried to open it but the box didn't open. I looked for a lock but found none.
I looked around and found a small piece of card lying just beside the box.
Keep it safe. I will be coming back for it.
Ava and her stupid games.
I left the box on the table and went back to the hospital .
I was such a wreak. I couldn't do anything or think about anything except for Katherine.
I snuck into the hospital and went straight towards her room.
It was empty. Her bed was made as if she hadn't been sleeping there a few hours ago.
For a second there was a dreadful realisation and I was suddenly reminded of the past.
There was no sign of her.
I checked the bathroom, but she wasn't there.
Maybe they must've shifted her into another room. I tried to keep all the negative thoughts aside and slipped outside of the room.
The corridor was empty. I went straight to the receptionist desk. Thankfully, no one was there. I looked for the patients file and found none.
At the same moment, a man in his late 20's came in."What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I'm Dr.Smith and I was called in for a patient. I believe her name is Katherine Preston" I said.
He stared at me for a moment. "Why are you here at this hour?"he asked.
"I was supposed to be here earlier but I missed my flight." I answered.
"Wait here, I'll check." He went behind the desk to the computer and typed few keys.
"Katherine Preston?" He asked.
I nodded getting anxious by each passing minute.
"I'm sorry there is no such patient admitted here. "
