The fresh air had cleared her head. She looked around and realised she had wandered to the Twin Tower memorial. She always wondered how the building would look if it were still there. Tourists seemed to love the memorial; Kye could always see people throwing coins into the memorial pool even when it was prohibited. If they had thought of the thousands of people that had died here, they wouldn't want to treat it as a wishing well anymore, Kye thought half laughing to herself, as she walked along the memorial. The sun had reached the top of the sky, and the heat was becoming unbearable. Kye took out her phone and checked the time, realising it had reached noon. Knowing that it was time to go home, Kye let out a sigh.

The cold breeze of the air conditioner sent a shiver down her body when she opened her house door. Taking off her shoes, she entered the house. She could smell the aroma of food that had wafted out of the kitchen. There she was, Kye thought when she caught Anetté walking down the stairs. And, of course, Anetté saw her too. When their eyes met, Kye could feel how the temperature around her dropped. Those grey eyes seemed to be clouded with some things. Kye had seen something unusual about those grey eyes; they appeared full of wisdom that did not belong to Anetté's age. Anetté was two years younger than Kye, yet those eyes felt like they belonged to an eighty-year-old who had been through all those storms in life. Kye turned away, broke her eye connection with Anetté, and hurried upstairs, her shoulder brushing with Anetté's. She did not dare to turn behind and walked straight back into her room, eyes not leaving the floor.

To her surprise, Noir was still inside her room, curling up in a corner of her bed. When it saw Kye, it let out a soft purr as acknowledgement without even bothering to sit up. Kye found it strange how was Noir changing so suddenly. Just in the morning, Noir would snarl at the sight of her and now it was so relaxed with her. Her thought was interrupted by her mother's call for her to get down for lunch. However, Kye's doubts were not cleared. She had this strange feeling that something had happened which she had no idea of while the rest of the family all knew. She needed to figure it out on her own, but instinct told her time was running tight. She will be starting her university next week. Kye told herself to relax as those were her family and they would be the ones caring and loving her. I just need to rest, maybe it was just due to the car accident, Kye told herself, everything will be fine. Everything would return to normal when she started school the next week.
