Alex's POV:

"Are you sure you're okay?" I asked for the hundredth time.

"Alex, I'm fine," Zoe repeated the same answer she had given me the last hundred times.

It had been almost a week since the battle in Hawaii. Marie brought Zoe and Elijah back to Toronto two days ago when Zoe was discharged from the hospital although the doctor told her to avoid moving too much and following the doctor's orders, Elijah made sure that she didn't leave her house. In fact, today was the first time she had stepped foot outside in two days, but even now, as we walked up to the front door of her father's house, I was concerned about her.

"Besides, you know I can't hide anything from you," she reasoned. "And thanks to the gemstone, you would even know if I was healing or not. And you know I'm healing."

That was true. A few days ago, Cody and I had determined that not only did we gain Ryan's telekinetic powers, but the consumption of the power of the Charger had enhanced our already existing abilities and simultaneously given us more domination over them. I remembered the day I first met Cody about what felt like a millennia ago when I had been training to gain control over the wind. Back then, I had failed like I always did, but ever since the Charger, the wind bowed to me as if I had always been able to control it.

"I know," I said, sighing. "I'm just worried."

"Well, don't be," she told me. "Because I'm fine."

I nodded as both stopped on the porch, staring at the front door. I glanced at Zoe and saw her biting her lower lip, contemplating whether to ring the doorbell or not. I slightly nudged her with my elbow and when she looked at me, I gave her an encouraging nod. She took a deep breath and lifted her hand, pressing the doorbell for two short seconds before pulling away. I could feel the anxiety rolling off her body and I knew that even if I told her to relax, she wouldn't.

I heard shuffling behind the door before it opened to reveal a dark-skinned woman with curly hair, dressed in a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. She looked to be in her early thirties although I suspected that with the right amount of makeup, she could pass off as someone much younger. She didn't seem to be wearing any makeup right now, and she was still gorgeous.

"Can I help you?" She asked politely, looking from me to Zoe.

"Hi, um... I'm here to see Jacob Edwards," Zoe replied, nervously playing with her fingers.

The woman raised her eyebrows before turning around and calling out, "Jake, honey, there's someone here to see you."

I furrowed my eyebrows and exchanged a glance with Zoe who seemed mutually confused as she mouthed, Honey?

Before either of us could say anything though, a man appeared in the doorway. The first thing my gaze noticed was how the color of his eyes was identical to that of Zoe's - striking green. His hair though, was brown and close-cropped. He looked at me and then Zoe before a crease formed between his eyebrows as though he somewhat recognized her.

Zoe was frozen in her spot, staring at her father. I cleared my throat to shake her out of her trance and she fumbled for words, saying, "Hi, I'm um... I'm Zoe."

"Zoe?" The man - Jacob Edwards - muttered, looking constantly from her vibrant red hair to the color of her eyes. Then, in a low voice, he said, "My Zoe?"

Zoe released a chuckle and I saw tears lining up in her eyes. She nodded and Jacob's expression changed into a mixture of disbelief, joy, and love. He made a sound in his throat before pulling Zoe in a hug, closing his eyes as tears rolled down her cheek. I couldn't help but smile, feeling the pure contentment that rolled off their auras.
