Chapter 9

I wrapped myself happily in a blanket trying to disappear. I had told Marie about everything. Of course I left out the part about Chris and Andrew being vampires or the fact that Andrew almost sucked my blood dry. I could not tell her that. It would make me look crazy. I also did not want to get Andrew in trouble. How stupid could I be? I just told her that I went outside cause I could not sleep to look at the stars when I came back inside I was not quiet enough. Mother had come in saw my dress ruined and the rest is history.

“How can you get so dirty watching stars?” Maria had asked. But like a loyal friend she did not expect an answer. I was more then proud of Maria for not crying once. I felt terrible though. I had lied to my best friend because of Andrew. He was going to be a huge pain in my side. “You can stay here as long as you like.” She finally said “mother loves you and father would not care ever since the English lost and we became free father could care less if I asked Andrew to come move in.” I froze. The sound of his name made me cold. “Are you still cold?” asked Maria taking an extra blanket wrapping it around me. I took it grateful though I knew I was not cold cause of the weather.

“I am very tired Maria can we please go to bed.” I said truly sleepy. Maria nodded. “Of course” I went to the extra bed in the corner of her bedroom. That was where Maria older bother use to sleep. Maria did not have a lot of money. That is one of the reasons Rosemary does not like her. So she and her brother shared a room. But Maria's brother Benjamin died in war. So now they have an extra bed. I sadly slipped into the bed. I had got along with Benjamin. I remember when Maria came to my house sobbing saying over and over again “his dead gone, gone, and gone” I had cried with her. Selfishly worried that father would meet the same death.

“Sabrina?” Maria said from her bed. “Yes” I say slowly to tried to really speak. “Are you coming to lessons tomorrow with me?” I thought hard. I could not leave Maria alone with Rosemary. I could also hide there. Mother knows how much I hate those horrid lessons with the terrible Mrs. Vansa. They would never search for me there. It was perfect. “Yeah but I do not have any dress.” I said.

“That’s ok” said Maria to happy. She was scared I would say no and she be alone forever in that horrible inn. “I have a dress that fits me to big you could have it.” I nodded my head in the darkness knowing Maria could not see me. But I was too tired to speak just moving my head took enough energy. I turned around and feel into a dreamless sleep.

“Thank you again Mrs. Alancraft” I said the next morning. I and Maria were leaving for lessons and for the 275 time I had said thank you. I had a lot of people to thank. If it weren’t for this people I would be miserable with mother. I did not look like I had been crying hard or that I had gotten in a nasty fight with mother or that I found out Andrew and Chris

chris and andrew were vampires. i looked normal. my face turned its normal pale color. My eyes were no longer red and puffy.

The smack mother had given me had erase from my cheek. My hair was

neatly put in a bun and the dress Maria gave me fit perfect.

“No

problem my dear” Mrs. Alancraft said wiping her hands on her apron. She

did not have a maid like my mother and father. She did everything on

her own. I truly admired her. “Hurry now or you are going to be late.”

I would not mind being late to those horrid lesson but I had to think

about Maria so I faked a smile and walked to the inn.
